Ivanovsky Institute of Virology, Moscow 1982 – 1985; Doctor of medical science for the thesis “HIV-infection in Belarus (virological, serological and molecular-biological investigations)”, Minsk April 15 1998; Current Appointment: Head of laboratory: HIV and accompanying infection diagnosis 23 Filimonova st., Republican Research & Practical Centre for Epidemiology & Microbiology, Minsk, 220114, Belarus. Certification & Licensure: Diploma IV No. 175241 26 June, 1982, Minsk Diploma of Ph.D. BL No. 017088 5 November, 1986, Moscow Diploma of Doctor of Medical Science DN No. 000057 15 April 1998, Minsk Certificate of Senior Researcher SN 074937 17 April 1992, Moscow Research work: In 1982 I began my scientific research work as a post - graduate student at the Retroviruses laboratory at the Research Institute for Virology, named after D.I. Ivanovsky of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR in Moscow. My Investigations were mainly devoted to bovine leukemia virus (BLV) infection diagnosis. In 1985 I started working with HIV: cultivation, purification, preparing EIA kits at D.I. Ivanovsky Institute of Virology. In May 26 th 1986 I defended my PhD thesis “Prepare antigen for bovine leukemia virus diagnosis”, and got a scientific degree of candidate of biological science (Ph D). From 1985 to 1987 I worked at the Hepatitis A and Rotaviruses diagnosis laboratory at the Byelorussian research Institute for Epidemiology and Microbiology. My investigations dealt with diagnosis of Hepatitis A and rotaviruses infections. In 1987 a new AIDS laboratory was organized at our Institute and I started working in it as a senior scientific researcher. At present - head of Laboratory for HIV and accompanying infection diagnosis, my investigations are focused on wild HIV strains isolation and pheno- and genotyping from patients screened on the territory of Belarus, as well as opportunistic infections (HSV, Varizella Zoster, CMV, Chlamydia, Hepatitis B, C, D and so on) diagnosis. Nowadays, more than 15500 HIV cases are reported in Belarus. We had only 113 HIV cases from 1986 to January 1996 and more 1900 cases from May 1996 to May 1997. IDU’s - the main reason of this outbreak. I isolated more than 100 HIV-I and HIV-II strains. Two rapid/high HIV-I strains were the first in the former USSR. Now they are used in Western blot kit preparation in Belarus. To study HIV-neuroinfection we used primary human astrocyte cell cultures. We proved that astrocytes can be infected in two ways: by means of receptors and phagocytosis of infected cells and it makes it possible to get latent and productive forms of HIV neuroinfection, meanwhile astrocytes can serve as HIV depot in CNS just like macrophages in blood. We revealed multinuclear giant cells in vitro (in astrocytes), like those in brains of died patients. At present, HIV pheno-, sero- and genotyping, search of anti-HIV compounds, HIV, hepatitis B, C, HPV molecular epidemiology, as well as HIV, hepatitis C, B resistance – all these problems lie in the sphere of my scientific interests. As for my own experience and practice, I became proficient in the following methods: oligonucleiteds synthesis on expedite nucleic acid synthesis system (PerSeptive Biosystems, USA), HIV isolation, lymphoid and astrocytes cell cultures cultivation, SDS-PAGE, protein chromatography purifying of proteins, HIV antigens and anti-HIV antibodies testing in cell cultures and blood (EIA – Ag+Ag/Ab), RT-PCR, PCR, peptides EIA, MTT, XTT farmazan assay for searching of anti-HIV compounds, sequencing ABI Prism 3100, 3500 (ViroSeq HIV-1 genotyping System v.2.0, Sequencing Analysis, BioEdit, SeqScape, Mega6- Software). The Belorussian research and practical center for epidemiology and microbiology is leading scientific institution in Republic of Belarus. The basic lines of activity of Center is maintenance of epidemiological well-being in the country, control over the most significant infectious diseases: HIV, hepatitis B, C, Influenza, rotaviruses, measles, Papilloma viruses, Togaviruses, Arboviruses, Herpesviruses, Hantaviruses, and so on. The institute is engaged in working out and manufacture of diagnostic preparations which are used both in Belarus, and in Russia, other CIS countries. Research practice: 11 - 12. 1987 - National Institute of Health, Tokyo, Japan (prof. Ketamura) 01 - 02. 1990 - National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Maryland ( Dr. David Asher ) 03 - 04. 1991 - Institute of Physiology Chemistry, Mainz, Germany ( prof. W-E. G.
