ANCIENT GREECE INDEPENDENT LEARING ACTIVITIES
You will be selecting activities from the list below. Your goal is to complete 100 points. Each activity
that you turn in will be recorded onto your Ancient Greece Independent Learning Activity Log.
Activities need to be turned in as you complete them (not all at once). You will be given some class time
occasionally to work on your activities, so come to class prepared. Much of the work (especially models
and sculptures) will need to be completed at home.

Working at the Agora- choose a business, create a stand-up sign, and write a sales pitch
Mosaic Tiles- design and create your own 8” by 8” tile floor; define mosaics and explain the use of
mosaics in Ancient Greece
A Wedding Invitation –create a wedding invitation that would be sent in Ancient Greece
Olympic Sports- Complete a newspaper article on a made-up Olympic Event
Postcard from Ancient Greece- design a postcard with a scene from Ancient Greece, and write about
your experience at the location
Theater Mask- create a theater mask from either a comedy or a tragedy and explain how/why these
masks were used in the theater
The Trireme- research a trireme; draw and label a detailed picture of the battleship
Everyday Life in Ancient Greece- use the internet or books to research given tops
Women in ancient Greece- use the internet or books to research given tops
Parthenon Model- create a model of the Parthenon
Greek Columns- make a large poster showing the three major kinds of Greek columns: Doric, ionic and
Corinthian (NO TRI-BOARDS)

Greek Mythology- the sayings A Pandora’s Box, An Achilles heel, and A Trojan Horse are popular sayings
based on Greek Mythology; choose one to research and write a paragraph describing it
Ancient Greece Timeline-Create a timeline that covers at least 10 major events from 3000 BC to 146
BC; illustrate 10 of these events on the timeline
Travel Brochure- create a travel brochure for an interesting tourist site for people in Ancient Greece
to visit; include a map and interesting information about the site
Sculpture- make a sculpture of one of the Greek gods or goddesses; include a story about this god or
goddess
Greek Battle- write a newspaper article about a famous battle involving ancient Greece (Ancient Greek
Times)
Greek Philosophers- Write a one page biography on either Socrates, Plato, or Aristotle
Greek Myths- rewrite a myth using a modern setting and characters OR rewrite a myth as a poem
Greek Recipes- make a recipe book with at least 5 Greek recipes; include illustration of the food
Greece Alpha boxes- complete an alpha box sheet with at least 50 important words, people, battles, etc.
