The Opportunity
The Cellular Signalling and Human Disease Laboratory (www.med.monash.edu.au/biochem/labs/tiganis/) is
seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to characterise the role of reactive oxygen species (ROS)
and NADPH oxidases (NOXs) in metabolism. The project will take advantage of cell models, conditional knockout
mice and pharmacological approaches to determine the role of ROS and NOX4 in glucose and lipid metabolism
in obesity and type 2 diabetes and to determine the role of ROS in muscle and hepatic pathophysiology.
The Cellular Signalling and Human Disease Laboratory is part of the Metabolic Disease & Obesity Program in the
recently established Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI). BDI brings together scientists from the
School of Biomedical Sciences into six cross-disciplinary health and disease-focused Discovery Programs that
include Infection and Immunity, Neuroscience, Cancer, Metabolic Disease and Obesity, Cardiovascular Disease,
and Development and Stem Cells.
A PhD and a track record in animal handling and dissection, immunohistochemistry, genotyping and mouse
colony management, real time PCR and other genomic techniques, cell culture and general biochemical
techniques including western blotting are essential. Experience with myoblast and hepatocyte isolations,
measures of oxidative stress, or proteomics are advantageous. The ideal candidate will have a track record of
research excellence and will be capable of coordinating a multifaceted research program and working both
independently and collaboratively in a team.
