Maths We have spent time securing our knowledge of place value and then have used this to add and subtract numbers which have different place value positions. Our fluency in multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 has also improved. We have learned about negative numbers as well as becoming confident with multiples and factors. Music Mrs Knight has continued to teach 5C music this term. We have learned to play a chord sequence in C on the keyboard and then added a simple melody with a calypso rhythm, making sure that we are using a good hand position at all times. Book Study 5C Class News Spring 1 2017 Our love of reading continues… with the slow burner ‘Smith’ by Leon Garfield. This book is Drama We have been lucky enough to work with drama expert Sarah Reid who has taught us that drama is a quiet and thoughtful way to understand and relate to what we are reading. En francais… We have been learning the French for the names of the objects and rooms found in school. incredibly well written and contains some complex structures and language. The plot moves steadily, especially in its early stages, but each chapter is packed full of Science We have really enjoyed exploring our Solar System – not literally of course! The children have been developing their ability to research from information texts and from web-based sources, making sure that they have an appropriate amount of relevant information and ensuring they have been citing their sources. Working independently, everyone has then created their own mini-book packed full of scientific facts about the planets, what causes our day and night, the movement of the moon and what gravity is. detail and clues. One of Smith’s associates is the Highwayman, Lord Tom, which led us on to study the haunting poem of the same title by Alfred Noyes.
