WSCB Working Together to Achieve Effective Referrals Target Group: This training is aimed at front line staff who are likely to be in a position of needing to make a referral based on their engagement or observations of a child and / or their family. This training should also be accessed by those in agency settings who are responsible for receiving and handling referrals where there is a safeguarding concern regarding a child/children. It is also recommended that staff in positions where there is an expectation to contribute to and / or lead multi-agency assessments attend this session. Aims: Provide an opportunity for staff to gain greater understanding of the process from referral to assessment. Understanding the challenges faced by both referral makers and referral takers. Developing skills in the identification of and completion of both referrals and assessments. Learning outcomes: By the end of the course participants will be able to show they have an understanding of: How to make quality referrals when there is concern about a child. The expectations of both referral makers and referral takers The importance of the use of language and terminology when making and taking referrals The Thresholds for Services
