January 12, 2010 ECET 590 Team Meeting 3:00 Professor Lin’s Office Meeting called by: Attendees: Professor Lin Andrew Bourne Minutes Agenda item: Discussion: Smart Grid Technology (Implementation Research) Proposed Methods of Research for Class Members With the emergence of new technology in the energy field i.e. - Wind Farms, Solar Power, Bio-Fuels and Geothermal opportunities, our group will begin exploring how feasible ‘Smart Grid’ technology will be in regards to each specific country’s budget. The first assignment will revolve around understanding how industrialized nations are adapting to provide green energy technology infrastructure (smart grid) to their people or energy structure. How much money does each country i.e.- Japan, Germany, U.S., China, U.K. etc. set aside for developing smart grid technology as green energy technology replaces manufacturing jobs? How feasible is it for creating new jobs and changes in the global market place? What are the implications for implementing smart green technology? From this information we will derive how it will impact different facets of the state and world economy – Residential Homes, Buildings, Factories, Automotive, and Cultural Changes etc. To properly understand this I will examine the budgets of the many countries, including the U.S. Congress, Department of Energy to see what percentage of tax dollars are being used to fund energy infrastructure projects and its potential for success.
