Abstract
The purpose of this research was to apply a non-detrimental technique to screen shrimp broodstocks for
virus infection. Individual or pooled feces samples were collected and analyzed using multiplex PCR. The
total of 125 and 75 broodstocks from Bombana and Aceh, respectively, were examined for viruses.
Genomic DNA of the shrimp feces were extracted following the manual of QiaAmp DNA stool extraction
kit. We were able to detect WSSV, IHHNV and MBV from the broodstocks feces. MBV and IHHNV were
frequently found. This finding suggests that broodstocks may function as source of virus infection in growout ponds through infected seeds.
Key words: broodstocks, feces, multiplex PCR, tiger shrimp, virus
