After the huge successes in the first half of the year, we’re looking for a Technical Stage Manager to help us complete our year of exceptional drama. Aim of Post As a vital member of the production team, the Technical Stage Manager will be working closely with the Head of Production and Technical & Freelance Production Managers to plan and deliver Hull Truck Theatre’s increased programme of receiving and producing work in 2017. While being responsible for taking a lead role on all aspects of staging, maintenance of equipment & technical areas, the post holder will also be a key point of contact for in-house and visiting personnel. The Technical Stage Manager will lead on staging aspects of all visiting and produced fit ups, get outs and show calls, while providing the highest possible support for all Hull Truck Theatre & incoming productions. Tasks: Deliver all aspects of stage duties for a Hull Truck Theatre productions including engagement and learning activities. Provide the highest level of support for all HTT & incoming productions. To give stage & SM support during rehearsals of all HTT productions Organise stage maintenance in conjunction with TM To liaise with & support stage management teams on produced shows. Lead on stage health & safety in conjunction with the TM Principal Duties: Responsible for the delivery and installation of all scenic elements of HTT productions in conjunction with Head of Production and Technical, Freelance Production Managers and creative teams. Responsible for delivering any SM rehearsal requirements and elements of set in conjunction with Head of Production and Technical, Freelance Production Managers, creative and stage management teams. Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of scenic elements on produced shows. To act as Duty Stage Manager when required for both visiting and in-house productions. Line management of casual stage staff as and when required during fit ups & get outs To support the staging and technical requirements of visiting companies, by adhering to pre-agreed arrangements and riders. To negotiate with visiting productions/tours the use of additional equipment and services, ensuring the correct contra-charges are communicated to the Head of Production and Technical prior to settlement. To have a good working knowledge of industry agreements and guidelines including the working time directive, and to support the Head of Production and Technical in the implementation of relevant guidelines. To ensure that all production related work is completed to a high standard and complies with current licensing, fire, building and health and safety legislation. To oversee the timely execution of risk assessments for each HTT production prior to any technical rehearsals in conjunction with the Head of Production and Technical Ensure that the Theatre’s technical resources are maintained, managed and used responsibly and appropriately. Ensure that the technical areas are kept tidy and fit for purpose. Ensure a safe working environment during rehearsals, fit-ups, performances and get outs. Respond to any issues, which may be detailed in a show report in conjunction with the Head of Production and Technical. Deputise for the Head of Production and Technical when required, including sickness and holidays regarding matters of set and staging Attend production meetings and staff meetings as required. Health and Safety Ensure that all work carried out conforms with the latest Health & Safety regulations, HTT’s Health & Safety policy and working practices especially in respect of all technical aspects of productions Have responsibility for requirements relating to COSHH, LOLER, PUWER and current HSE legislation. To comply with ABTT best practice guides where applicable. To carry out risk assessments of hazardous tasks where necessary in conjunction with the Head of Production and Technical General The above accountabilities are not exhaustive and may vary without changing the character of the job or level of responsibility. The post holder must be flexible to ensure that the operational needs of the Company are met. This includes undertaking duties of a similar nature and responsibility as and when required. Person Specification: Essential: Theatrical qualifications e.g. university degree, theatre school or apprenticeship or relevant and proven experience in a professional theatrical environment. Minimum of 3 years’ experience of working in professional theatre. Rigging qualifications – ABTT or PLASA Good communication, literacy and numeracy skills Proven abilities of carpentry and set maintenance UK driving licence Previous experience of running get-in’s fit up’s & get out’s Good working knowledge of Health & Safety practice Adaptable and flexible with a calm and practical approach. Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines with a calm approach. Ability to work with others to collectively achieve the goals Self-motivated and resourceful with a positive outlook Working knowledge of risk assessments, COSSH and health & safety procedures Ability to effectively prioritise workload Desirable: Good working knowledge of AutoCAD Portable Appliance Testing qualifications and experience Pyrotechnics training course – LeMaitre Experience of rigging lighting, sound and AV systems. Terms & Conditions This is a Head of Department Grade post. The salary after completion of probation is £25,000 per annum pro rata, starting salary to be agreed) to start as soon as possible. This is a 6 month temporary contract unless there are exceptional circumstances. This is a full-time post with regular evening and weekend work. The normal hours of work will be 40 hours a week annualised over the year excluding meal breaks. The post holder will be expected to offer reasonable flexibility in their working arrangements where it is considered necessary to undertake the duties they have been employed to perform, and in the interest of the service. This is an annualised contract. Overtime is only payable for Sunday & after Midnight hours approved in advance with line manager. Holiday – 28 days per annum pro rata (including public holidays) rising by one day per every complete year worked, to a maximum annual holiday entitlement of 33 days. There is a probation period of 2 months during which time the notice period is 2 weeks. After confirmation of appointment the employee is required to give 1 month’ written notice to the company, and the company will give 1-month written notice to the employee, and after 4 years’ service one additional week’s notice for each additional year of continuous service thereafter up to a maximum of 12 weeks.
