Class Description: In World History second semester students will study the time period of
1870-1945. The guiding theme of this semester is “consequences of International Conflict.”
Students will analyze the multiple causal factors of conflicts in World History from a nonAmerican perspective, as well as make comparisons between historic and current events in world
history. Multiple social-science perspectives will be applied to the study of this era. These
perspectives include: geographic, political, economic, cultural, sociological, and psychological. In
the last part of the class students will study the time period of 1945 – present. Students will
analyze how an understanding of history can help us prevent problems today. They will explore
the themes of globalization and sustainability from a more thematic approach.

Reading:
By the end of grade 10, read and comprehend history/social texts in the grades 9-10 text

Performance Objectives:
Unit 3: Global Conflicts: Causes and Consequences.
Students will study the time period of 1870-1945. The guiding theme of this unit is
“consequences of International Conflict.” Students will analyze the multiple causal factors of
conflicts in World History from a non-American perspective, as well as make comparisons
between historic and current events in world history. Multiple social-science perspectives will be
applied to the study of era. These perspectives include: geographic, political, economic, cultural,
sociological, and psychological.
The CBA is the “Causes of Conflict”. In a cohesive paper of presentation, students will research a
conflict and analyze its causes from different social science perspectives (geographic, political,
economic, cultural, sociological, and psychological). Students will also state a position on why a
factor (or factors) played a primary role in causing the conflict. Finally, students will find
similarities between this conflict and current conflicts of today.
Unit 4: Past, Present, and Future: Global Conflicts & Resolutions
Students will study the time periods of 1945 to present. Students will analyze how an
understanding of history can help us prevent problems today. They will explore the themes of
globalization and sustainability from a more thematic approach. Students will also focus on
research, reading, and presentation strategies. Students will also apply the skill of compare and
contrast and will evaluate problems and propose solutions.

 Research a major conflict and take a position on what factors played a primary role in the
conflict.
 Research to find support for your position.
 Create a multi-paragraph essay that includes at least two of the following cases:


 Compare and contrast a past problem / event with one today.
 Create a presentation that compares and contrasts a past issue with one today.
 Within your presentation, include how studying the past can inform us about future
events.
 Deliver presentation according to performance rubric specifications
Progress Criteria/Methods of Evaluation:
Successful completion will be indicated by successful mastery of assignments within the above
projects
