Carpenter Anatomy
December 5- December 9
The following template has been developed based on Schmoker’s research of effective lessons. Each part is integral
to an effective lesson and the entirety is representative of a cycle which may be repeated multiple times
throughout a class period.

LO: Students will
be able to identify
the different parts
of the muscular
system.
This is the teacher-led part
of the lesson and will often
include some variation of
direct teaching and/ or
lecture.
Guided Practice
Allow for the student to
practice the concept. This
can be done individually
but should often be done in
pairs and occasionally in
groups.
Checks for

A CELL IS A ___________________________________.




A cell is like a ____________ (submarine, factory, prison, school, etc.)
The poster will be DRAWN like the analogy but LABELED with cellular organelle names.
It must make sense! The part must have the same FUNCTION as the organelle.
o Example – A cell is a city. I would draw a capitol building but label it “nucleus” because the capitol
governs the city much like the nucleus controls the cell.
Each group member will include a sheet that explains each analogy.
Organelle:
What You Will Draw:
Cell wall (if drawing a plant cell)
Cell membrane
Nucleus
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Ribosomes
Large vacuole (if drawing a plant cell)
Mitochondria
Golgi apparatus
Lysosome
