Global Platform Hosting Disaster Recovery Capabilities White Paper Contents 2 2 2 2 Introduction Process Details Certifications Summary Version 2.3 January, 2010 Global Platform Hosting Disaster Recovery Capabilities White Paper Introduction Xerox recognizes the importance of protecting an organization’s data and IT infrastructure. Disaster Recovery is a priority for any business. As a result of this, the applications and customer data managed by the Global Platform Hosting team are replicated to a second (Warm Standby) datacenter. Data replication occurs on a daily basis, providing continuous operations and protecting against major service outages. This document describes the Warm Standby operations and capabilities. Process Details The process for replicating data between the Production and Warm Standby datacenters occurs daily on a 7x365 basis: • • The Business Resumption Process has received the following approvals: All data replication occurs via an encrypted channel across a private Business2Business (B2B) network, preventing unauthorized data access. The transfer sessions employ Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140 certified algorithms, including 256-bit American Encryption Standard (AES) encryption. Organization Information Security Manager All data replication occurs via automated tasks requiring no manual intervention. All steps in the replication process are logged for management by the Hosting Team. In the event of an error in the replication process, Team Members are paged with the current replication status and the details of any error messages that occurred. Respective Business Owners • The Hosting Team employs a managed Domain Name System (DNS) service for the Production and Warm Standby sites. This enables customers to use the same base Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) for both sites. This enables seamless failover between sites. • Users are denied access to the applications in the Warm Standby environment until required as part of a resumption scenario. This protects users from accidentally accessing the incorrect environment. Certifications • Both datacenters have completed multiple audits. For more information on datacenter security, see the “ISO 27001 Certification Process White Paper” and the “Hosting Environment Security White Paper.” • The replication process has been reviewed and approved by Xerox Corporate disaster recovery specialists. Summary This document detailed the process for replicating data between the Production and Warm Standby datacenters. It covers the basic steps involved in the process, and the monitoring and notification controls employed. To learn more, visit us at www.xerox.com © 2010 Xerox Corporation. All rights reserved.
