process of getting the SDP members to agree, 20,000 of them were interrogated, imprisoned and
a few were even murdered.
Because they wanted the Germany economy to recover enough so that they could pay for their
own food imports and because they didn’t want to repeat the mistakes of the Treaty of Versailles
after WW1.

The US would not give them veto powers over nuclear matters on any vote on the use of nuclear
weaponry. The USSR offered that all nuclear weapons should be destroyed. The US refused
saying there would be no way of policing it.
The Soviets claimed a share in Italy’s former colony of Libya, which would give them a base in
the Mediterranean.
