Linda Gobis, RN, BS, MN, JD Summary Linda has been active in state and national nursing organizations for the last 20 years. She was initially elected to the Board of Directors of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys (“TAANA”) where she served as Recording Secretary and Chair of the Litigation Section. Linda also chaired the Local Chapter Presidents Council (i.e. all the Presidents of the state chapters of TAANA) which coordinated the activities and efforts of all state TAANA Chapters. In 1998, Linda was elected to the American Nurses Association (“ANA”) Congress of Nursing Practice and Economics. During her term she reviewed and revised seminal documents of the nursing profession, such as the Code of Ethics for Nurses, Social Policy Statement (i.e. the nursing profession’s contract with society) and multiple scopes and standards of specialty nursing practice. Two years later, as Chair of the Congress, she served as liaison to the ANA Board of Directors and American Nurses Credentialing Center (“ANCC”) Board of Directors, ANA’s subsidiary that develops and administers nursing specialty credentialing examinations. Linda was then elected to the ANA Board of Directors for eight years. During that time she helped establish nursing organization affiliate members of ANA, approved ANA Position Statements and White Papers, and supported the Doctorate of Nursing Practice as a new professional nursing degree. As Chair of the Governance Committee, Linda and her committee performed a comprehensive review of all ANA policies and procedures; and as Chair of the Committee on Appointments she was responsible for the review and approval of all candidates for appointment to ANA national committees. Linda was also appointed to the American Nurses Foundation (“ANF”) Board of Trustees (i.e. the ANA Foundation) for seven years. As Vice President and Chair of the Development Committee, she oversaw the foundation’s charitable giving and nursing scholarship grants, and approved a variety of nursing research projects. During a four year appointment to the ANA Political Action Committee (“ANA PAC”) Board of Trustees, Linda helped oversee ANA’s lobbying efforts along with political candidate endorsements and contributions. She also attended one of George W. Bush’s President’s Dinners and had the opportunity to discuss Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse policy issues with members of the U.S. Congressional Nursing Caucus. Linda will be heading back to Washington, D.C. in the summers of 2016 & 2017 as one of the Wisconsin delegates to ANA’s Membership Assembly (i.e. House of Delegates). She will be representing Wisconsin nurses and voting on national issues of importance to nurses. Linda has also been active in state professional organizations. She was elected to one of the first Board of Directors for the Wisconsin Center for Nursing. During her four years on that Board she helped lay the foundation and launch WCN into a leading Center that is nationally recognized for collecting, analyzing and disseminating nursing workforce data and developing recommendations for state nursing workforce action plans. As an active member of the Wisconsin Nurses Association (“WNA”), Linda served on the Council of Nursing Practice analyzing and addressing nursing practice issues in Wisconsin. She was elected WNA Vice President in 2013. In that capacity, Linda chaired the WNA Coordinating Cabinet which connects and coordinates the work of three WNA councils (Public Policy Council, Tri-Council [i.e. Education, Practice & Research] and Workforce Advocacy Council) and six Task Forces. These councils and task forces currently do all the nursing practice and policy work for WNA. After serving in the role of Interim President, she became President of the Wisconsin Nurses Association in December, 2015.
