WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, and WHY of your WWII battle. This is the general information
about this battle, and how it fits in to World War 2.
2. Battle Statistics (20%)
Numbers information about your WWII battle: How many deaths did each side suffer? The
number of troops from each side that originally entered the battle.
This and other numbers information about your WWII battle should be presented on your poster
in the form of a TABLE, GRAPH, or CHART.
3. Images of the battle (40%)

organizes their poster, you may need to have either one large picture or a few small pictures.
4. Organization of the information (20%)
Your group’s poster should be organized in a way that is easy for the audience to read and
understand. The poster’s information should either be written large and very neatly OR typed out
in a large enough font to see. The poster should look neatly arranged and well planned out by
the group.
5. Presentation (20%)
This should be a planned out summary of all your information on your poster. Your group should
write out a paragraph long (5-7 sentences) summary of your WWII battle to present to the class,
as well as being prepared to present the statistics and images to the class that your poster has.
CHOOSE YOUR DESTINY!!! (pick a battle you find interesting)
1. The Battle of Britain:
10 July 1940-10 October 1941.The Luftwaffe attempt to destroy the
Royal Air Force and bomb British cities over the skies of Britain and the
English Channel. In the end the Luftwaffe are forced back by the RAF
and Operation Sea lion (the invasion of England) was canceled.
2. The Attack on Pearl Harbor:
7 December, 1941. An attack by Japanese aircraft targeting the naval
base at Pearl Harbor. Dragged America into World War 2.
3. The Battle of Stalingrad:
14 September 1942- 2 February 1943. The German forces attempt to
capture Stalingrad. They almost succeeded but the Soviet army and the
Stalingrad terrain defeated them. Around 2 million die in the bitter
fighting. This was the turning point of the war in Europe.
4. The Invasion of Normandy (D-Day):
6 June 1944. The Allies invade Normandy on 5 different beaches with
paratroopers flanking the German forces. By midnight June 6 160 000
troops were on Normandy beaches and there were at least 1200
causalities on the Allies and between 4000 to 9000 German causalities.
5. The Battle of Midway:
4-7 June 1942. Japan attempts to take Midway but the majority of their
planes are the destroyed by the UNS. Then the United States Navy
counter-attack and end up destroying all 4 aircraft carriers. Many say
this is the turning point of the Pacific war.
6. The Battle of Berlin:
16 February-2 May 1945. The Soviet army overwhelm the German
defences with sheer manpower and armour. Around 200 000 people
died on both sides and the war in Europe was over.
7. The Invasion of Iwo Jima:
19 February-26 March 1945. The Americans attempted to capture Iwo
Jima swiftly but due to the caves in the terrain they had to capture the
island with savage fighting over 20 000 Japanese were killed but Iwo
Jima acted for a staging point for the invasion of Okinawa and it also
acted for a safe haven for stricken bombers returning from Japan.
8. The Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki:
The United States drops an atomic bomb on Hiroshima in August 6,
1945. The Soviet Union declares war on Japan and invades Manchuria.
The United States drops an atomic bomb on Nagasaki three days after
the first drop. On August 14, 1945, Japan formally surrenders, ending
World War II.
