"THE DEVILS CHAINGANG" (Luke 4:18-19) The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. (Mankind has been Held Captive) Jesus came to set the captives free according to Luke 4:18, "to bring out prisoners from confinement, and from the dungeon, those who live in darkness" as we read in Isaiah 42:7. Jesus died to free us not only from slavery to sin, Satan, and death but to also give us a new way. If Jesus, the Son of Man, sets us free, we are really free as stated in John 8:36. He is the Redeemer, the One who paid the price to ransom us from slavery. God the Father rescued us from the power of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His beloved Son. If we take the devil's bribes and do not accept Jesus' liberation, we have decided to stay in captivity though free. The heavenly Father grieves, and the Spirit is stifled. Every father wants to see his children free. Our heavenly Father so wanted us free that He gave His Son Jesus. If we rely on our self we are still weak and will fail, because the law was there to show us our weakness in the flesh. B. The Weakness of Flesh. (4-6) 1. The grace that has been offered to us is only good if we select to use it, we cannot make it on our own. 2.
