Dairy, it’s nature’s most
perfect food
and for generations, the
consumption of dairy products has been positively
associated with the health and wellness of families
and communities. However, in recent times dairy
has shifted into a defensive category. We are
having to respond to competitor products seeking
to steal dairy’s identity, a nutrition community that’s
become too focused on “what not to eat” instead
of emphasizing “what to eat” and well-intentioned
but under-informed environmental groups who
are unable to make the necessary connection
between nutritional value and environmental
impact. The net result is a reactive industry trying
to communicate with customers who are being
bombarded by conflicting messages.

priority areas.
Nutrient Density
Dairy: Nature’s Most Perfect Food
On a global basis, consumers and regulators have become focused on “what
not to eat” instead of emphasizing “what to eat.” This negative promotion
demonizes the naturally occurring fats and sugars in dairy products, while ignoring
the many essential nutrients. There is an urgent need to revive consumer
confidence in dairy products as being healthy, natural, enjoyable and tasty.
GDP Goal: Consumers value milk and dairy products as naturally nutritious,
enjoyable and an essential part of a healthy diet.
Milkfat
Dairy: The Healthy Source of Natural Fat
The perception of dairy as a source of Saturated Fatty Acids (SFA) and
therefore linked to heart disease is still prevalent. Despite challenges such
as governmental campaigns, taxes, nutrient profiling and dietary guidelines
that target SFA, a more balanced outlook is starting to emerge: instead of
concentrating on individual nutrients, influencers are beginning to focus on the
complex relationships between diet and wellness. A concerted communications
consensus and drive action on key issues.
7.GDP is able to connect individuals on emerging issues, resulting in early identification of key trends.

industry. Together we are greater than the sum of our parts.

issues.

that enhance collaboration amongst members.
effort by the dairy industry to inform influencers is beginning to shift the
dialog to a more balanced view of SFA and Milkfat.
GDP Goal: Achieve a more balanced view of Milkfat, thereby increasing the
demand for dairy products.
Sustainability
Dairy: Good for Me, Good for the Planet
The dairy industry understands the importance of looking after its
environment. For centuries, dairy has been the cornerstone of sustainable
communities, from nutrition to social and economic health. As the world
evolves, dairy must remain at the forefront of advances in science and
technology that continuously seek to minimize the resources we consume
while maximizing the nutrition we deliver.
GDP Goal: Ensure the dairy sector is recognized as a vital source of essential
nutrients and distinguished for proactively managing its relationship with
the environment.
