What is happening in God’s plan? - Genesis 12:1-3 Land promise {13:14-16 Nation promise 15:5 Name promise 17:4-8} Protection promise Blessing to all promise People of the Promise Galatians 3:16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, "And to seeds," as of many, but as of one, "And to your Seed," who is Christ. People of the Promise Galatians 3:22 But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. People of the Promise Acts 3:24-26 Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days. You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.' To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities." People of the Promise Why does God provide the Savior through a family, a race, a nation? 1. He is going to work through a traceable lineage. 2. Working through the frailty of one family, one people demonstrates the power of God to accomplish His plan. People of the Promise Why does God provide the Savior through a family, a race, a nation? 3. To exhibit a relationship with the people from which we can learn. 4. To create a “community” of faith for the purpose of cultivating future believers. People of the Promise The Pioneers of Faith - There is a new dimension that is reached and we see it in the language (Genesis 28:13) - It is the kind of faith they are called to have Gen. 1-11 - God’s authority > faith Gen. 12… - God’s character > faith People of the Promise The relationship that God formed with them was based upon promises about things He would not do for a long time, and most things that He would not do in their lifetime People of the Promise Hebrews 11:13-14 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. People of the Promise Hebrews 11:15-16 And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them. People of the Promise Following Their Trail of Faith - Personalize your faith Genesis 28:20-21 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father's house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God… People of the Promise Following Their Trail of Faith - Appreciate your heritage Galatians 3:26-29 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek,…for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. People of the Promise Following Their Trail of Faith - Launch out toward God with nothing but faith in Him Hebrews 11:8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. People of the Promise
