Building Blocks Pre-K Math
The ECASD Early Learning Math Committee spent
three years studying, researching, and piloting
appropriate math curriculum for preschool. The
committee decided to implement Building Blocks
for PreK. This curriculum is based on ten years of
research by Dr. Douglas Clements and Dr. Julie
Sarama.
Building Blocks develops preschool children’s
early mathematical knowledge by embedding
mathematical learning in students’ daily
activities. The curriculum focuses on number
sense, counting, and geometry.
Each classroom is filled with hands-on math
manipulatives, materials, and books. Math is
embedded throughout the day in large group
times, small group times, transitions, and choice
time.
