It has become the largest of the worlds religions. Christianity The religion is more than a system of belief. It also has generated a culture, a set of ideas ways of life, and practices. Origins and Mythos • Born in Bethlehem to a Jewish couple, Mary and Joseph through immaculate conception. • In his adult life Jesus began traveling, preaching, completing good works, and performing miracles. • He emphasized monotheism, the 10 commandments, and the personal relationship with god. • His teachings challenged Roman ideals and were considered blasphemy for which he was sentenced to death by crucifixion. • After raising from the dead, his apostles were convinced he was the Messiah. • The New Testament is a continuation of the Torah written after his death.
