PROGRAM
The LNG Task Force, Ministry of Natural Gas Development, provides an overarching framework to Ministries
and Crown agencies to ensure policies, programs and decisions support the establishment of a thriving,
competitive LNG industry that is environmentally and socially responsible.
JOB OVERVIEW
To support economic, statistical and forecasting projects by developing and managing data, ensuring accuracy
of computations and methodologies, conducting comprehensive economic and statistical analysis, and
developing reports on results.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Required:

Monitors the global natural gas markets, focusing on changes and trends with supply, demand and
prices. Drafts a monthly LNG spot price publication and assists the Senior Economist in producing the
Global LNG Outlook.

Maintains a comprehensive set of tracking documents and project profiles for the liquefied natural gas
projects in British Columbia.

Develops a broad understanding of global energy markets, the various players (both corporate and
nation state), current trends and projected developments.

Performs economic and statistical analyses to predict impacts of events and of changes to existing or
proposed new programs, services, and/or policies.

Supports the creation of economic forecasting models of major scope and complexity being developed
by senior economists.

Conducts cost-benefit analyses on proposed changes to ministry programs and policies.

Identifies any intrinsic weaknesses in economic information/data and provides explanations of
significant variation.

Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of computations, analyses, methodologies and statistics and the
appropriate integration of information.

Develops and maintains comprehensive information resources to support studies through
identification, acquisition and quality control of data.

Conducts environmental scans and reviews external research reports, literature and academic journals
for trends, issues, and methodologies related to program area, and reports on findings.

Provides guidance, interpretation and recommendations regarding the research, collection, analysis
and reporting of information.

Conducts planning, research and analysis for the development of research proposals.

Participates in committees, projects and working groups which may be inter-ministerial and multidisciplinary.

Prepares issue papers, briefing notes, estimates, submissions, responses and other documents for
review.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in Economics or directly related field, or equivalent.

A minimum of 2 year of experience conducting economic and statistical analysis.

Experience drafting briefing notes, Estimates notes, and Cabinet material as required for Senior
Executive or elected official.

Travel may be a requirement. A valid passport may be required.

Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a
criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security
screening checks as required by the ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting
carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).
