Scheduling Plan of Attack! Presentation to teachers Extended Homeroom Friday MARCH 4th 1. 2. 3. The first 40 minutes teachers will show power point and allow students time to self- audit their transcript Students will take transcript/audit/and course selection sheet to each class the rest of the day and have teachers sign off on their selections. All transcripts/audits/and course selection sheets will be returned to counselors at the end of the day! Complete or not! Power Point- Find the power- point on the Mt. Healthy Jr. Sr. High school web page under the guidance tab. I will also send an e-mail with the power point attached, Student Transcripts to each homeroom- These will be in your mail boxes Blank Audit Sheets- You will need to pick these up in the mailroom Student Course Selection sheets- You will need to pick up the correct grade level course selection sheets for the students in your homeroom The student transcripts should show their grade level. Period 7 Attendance sheets- These will be in your mail box. Please complete the attendance sheet at the end of the day on March 4th and place on top of the collected and completed course selection sheets. CCP+ Intent Forms- Pick up some forms for students who may be interested (mostly 11-12th grade advanced students) Request to see counselor forms- There will be questions for counselors from students. Pick up some forms as needed. Please have them complete a request and provide the question or concern on the request. Return these at the end of the day as well. NEXT STEPS 1. Counselors will review student requests 1. Once classes are ready to enter in DASL counselors will meet with students to finalize requests (April) Every attempt will be made to have the master schedule completed in May! Mt. Healthy High School Student Scheduling Information Extended Homeroom Scheduling Day Students By the end of homeroom today you will have completed the following 1. Your Credit Check sheet 2. Your Course Selection Sheet STEP 1 Look at your transcript and mark courses you have successfully completed on your credit check sheet. This paper shows all of the courses you must take to graduate. There are 16 required credits and 6 electives you get to choose You must have 22 credits earned by the time you graduate Credit Check Put a Check by any course you have passed (earned a D or higher) √ Put a X by any course you are currently taking, but haven't finished. Put a Circle by the next course you should take. Follow the green arrows to find class credits earned DO NOT LOOK AT THE ATTEMPTED CREDIT BUT THE EARNED CREDIT Look to make sure all of the courses you have taken are showing up, especially if you took Freshman Challenge, PE Waiver, or transferred to Mt. Healthy. Overall GPA What else is on your transcript? • This is VERY important for scholarships and admission to college. • What grades you earn as a 9, 10th,and 11thth grade student will effect your overall GPA! You will use your final JUNIOR GPA on college applications. • Many colleges and employers want students with a 2.5 GPA or higher. (C/B student) • If yours is lower you can still get into a college or career but your choices of where and how will be less 30 hours of Community Service are required for graduation. No more than 15 hours may be completed during the school day. Students are responsible for filling out a community service card and turning in all hours by April 1st of their senior year. Start now. STEP 2 Select your classes for next year! Your teachers will select/approve your core classes for the next year on your course selection sheet. However if you have failed a past class please note that you will need to take that class as well. You and the subject area teacher can determine if you should repeat the class or take the class in Nova Net. The student will not receive credit for PE, but it’s requirement will be waived. The student will need to complete a form when they complete their second season. These forms are available from their School Counselor. NEW ELECTIVES! COLLEGE READINESS FOR THE STUDENT-ATHLETE This class is designed for the student-athlete who has demonstrated the academic and athletic potential to participate in collegiate athletics (NCAA, NAIA, Junior College, Community College, etc.). This course develops student understanding and skills of the academic expectations and rigors of a college student-athlete. Topics that will be covered: Study skills, time management, completing college scholarships, applications, and FAFSA, ACT / SAT preparation, NCAA clearinghouse, the recruiting process. Students will be provided with the academic support to meet college requirements and have opportunities to meet with current and former college student-athletes, coaches, and other personnel. This class is also designed to create parental awareness and include parents in the communication process. Eligible students: Grades 11, 12 Term: 1 semesters Pre-requisite: Athletic administrative approval required NEW ELECTIVES! PIANO II Piano II is designed to further develop students with prior piano training. It is not limited to students that may have prior piano skills or have taken piano prior to attending in this school district. Students should already know the following basic musical principals: Notes on the staff (both bass and treble clef), C, G, Major scale, and how to read notes in the right hand but could be limited slightly in left hand. Students must be recommended for piano by the instructor. Eligible students: Grades 10, 11, 12 Term: 1 Semester NEW ART ELECTIVES! If you took 1 art class previously then you can move to 2D/3D art, If you have taken 2 art classes then you can move onto Exploring artsthis is only for students who are going into 10-12th grade. NEW ELECTIVES! COLLEGE PREP ZOOLOGY Zoology is a one semester course solely focusing on animal biology. Students will study that major divisions of the animal kingdom with a focus on anatomy, adaptations, classification, and identification. Zoology is a lab intensive class in which students will have the opportunity to handle many specimens and complete dissections. Eligible students: Grades 11, 12 Term: 1 semesters COLLEGE PREP ASTRONOMY / SPACE SCIENCE Code: ???? This one semester course provides the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding about the solar system, galaxy, and universe in which we in which we live. Much attention is given to an appreciation for how we have obtained this information about the universe. Students use tools of observation to learn about space and learn how other astronomers, past and present, have used available tools. Areas of study include: the process of science, including use of the tools used to observe the sky; stellar astronomy and how stars change over time; and planetary astronomy and how interstellar spacecraft are obtaining information about other bodies in the solar system. Eligible students: Grades 11, 12 Term: 1 semesters NEW ELECTIVES! SPORTS LEISURE I & II This is an elective semester course for those students who have successfully completed P.E. I & II. This course is designed to expand knowledge of fitness, leisure and sporting activities including officiating and organizing activities. Strategies and skills will be covered in more detail. Eligible students: Grade 11, 12 or Instructor Approval Term: 1 semester WEIGHT TRAINING AND CONDITIONING I & 2 Elective physical education class offered to any student that has fulfilled their P.E. requirement. Weight training – 3 days/week; aerobic activity (running, aerobic tapes, jump rope, circuit training, cross training etc.) – 2 days/week. Emphasis will be on strength development, flexibility, agility, and power training with information on nutrition and weight maintenance, and cardio-vascular (heart-rate). Eligible students: Grade 11, 12 or Instructor Approval Term: 1 semester NEW ELECTIVES! PRINCIPLES OF FOOD (FORMERLY FOODS 1) - In this course, students will gain knowledge in food selection criteria and apply preparation methods to promote a healthy lifestyle. Students will apply cooking methods, ingredient selection and nutritional information in the context of selected food dishes. Throughout the course, basic food safety and sanitation techniques will be emphasized. Eligible students: Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 Term: 1 semester GLOBAL FOODS (FORMERLY FOODS 2) - 2nd Semester Only In this course, students will compare cuisines, ingredients and preferred cooking methods of various cultures. The influence of traditions and regional and cultural perspectives on food choices and culinary practices will be emphasized. Students will examine the issues and conditions that affect the availability and quality of food in the global market, and apply advanced cooking techniques, including the use of specialty and advanced equipment in the preparation of food dishes. Eligible students: Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 Term: 1 semester NEW ELECTIVES! CHILD DEVELOPMENT In this course, students will study the principles of child growth, development and behavior. An emphasis will be placed on the cognitive development of a child and sensory and motor skills. Additional topics will include childhood diseases, immunizations, theories of development, learning styles and evaluating childcare services. Eligible students: Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 Term: 1 semester If a class is listed as CC+ this stands for College Credit Plus. College Credit Plus allows you to take classes on Mt. Healthy’s Campus ( or on a college campus ) and earn high school credit at the same time earning college credit. In some cases these classes may replace AP classes.
