Stephan Koch – Advanced Demand Response with NearTerm Market Potential in Electric Power Systems
Appliance Population
switching commands
Example: Secondary Frequency Control
The aim is to develop a software platform for the
aggregation and short-term control of large
groups of thermal loads (such as air
conditioners, heat pumps, electric water
heaters, etc.).
This leads to an enhanced controllability of the
load and novel business opportunities for
electricity companies by enabling the provision
of control services by groups of heating and
cooling devices.
The vision is that the demand side becomes
more actively involved in power system control
in order to increase system security and
efficiency and to facilitate the grid integration
of renewable energies.
