Caterpillar The caterpillar belongs to the infodora family. Caterpillars have twelve eyes to help them see their predators. The caterpillars life cycle is quite interesting. They start out in an egg on a leaf. The egg takes one to two weeks to hatch. When the caterpillar hatches it is very small but when they start eating they can increase their body mass over one thousand times. About three or four weeks later the caterpillar will make a chrysalis around itself then three weeks later a butterfly will nibble its way out and probably lay its own eggs on a swan plant and then the proses goes all over again . A caterpillars appearance is quite strange. Because some caterpillars have more white or green than others their colouring will often depend on their habitat they will blend in to plants to protect themselves. In different climates caterpillars can be brightly coloured to warn other animals that they are poisonous. Caterpillars are quite often laid on swan plants, but not always. Caterpillars tend to stay on the plant that they hatch on because they are used to it. Caterpillars will often stay on the underside of leaves to hide from predators. Some also hide in the day and feed at night. Caterpillars are often quite picky about their food. They mostly eat plants on which their eggs are laid. Most caterpillars eat one kind of plant but some caterpillars eat several plants. Caterpillars also eat ant larvae and aphids. A few species of caterpillars are carnivals. Caterpillars eat a lot because they grow very quickly. Please look after the caterpillar because they are very special bugs with a short life picky food and a strange appearance and a light habitat By EVA .H
