10th June 2016 OX17 2PD Dear Greatworth Primary School, Thank you for your support over the past year as we have set up the education centre; I am writing to inform you of our plans for the future and the changes that will be happening. As you may already be aware, I am leaving teaching in a classroom this summer to come full time on the farm, in order to grow the education centre and allow more flexibility for schools. However, my intention remains to keep strong links to the curriculum and create purposeful and memorable learning experiences. I understand the pressures on teachers from first-hand experience so really do want to tailor the farm visits to fit in with learning in school. We have loved the ‘Our Partner Farm’ scheme and feel it has gone well as the children have seen the seasonal changes and have had a sense of ownership with the farm. We want to continue this next year, however, we felt that termly visits were not entirely beneficial as particularly through the colder months there wasn’t a lot of change on the farm. We are now advertising the ‘Our Partner Farm’ scheme as a 4 visit option. Thus providing schools with a visit per season rather than a visit per term; starting from September. We recognise that your school have used the ‘Our Partner Farm’ scheme across the key stages instead of classes and are aware that with the new system each group will only have 2 visits. This seems a shame as we’re trying to engage them with seasonality and give them a close connection to the farm so with regards to the new costings, which I will come onto, we would like to offer you an extra deal. As you understand, the prices we charged last year were very low as we were just trying to establish ourselves, our days were limited and we were still tweaking visits to make them work more effectively. This year, our prices have increased to make it a more sustainable project and the prices advertised to other schools are as follows: The ‘Our Partner Farm Scheme’ for 4 visits is £800 for the year. A day visit is £180 for 20 children and £7 per extra child. As loyal customers already we are prepared to knock 10% off of those prices for you; bringing the partnership down to £720 for the 4 visits. However, as I have already mentioned I understand you may want to stick to 6 visits and for this we are prepared to offer it to you at £900 for the 6 visits. This is an offer just for you and we would appreciate your discretion on it. Other things you may be interested in are that we are hoping to build a cloakroom to enable the process of changing wellies and coats to be a bit smoother. We also hope that at some point in the future we will be able to afford a passenger trailer so that we can provide rides for the children. Any other changes we will update you on as and when they come along. Finally, on a personal note, I will be available next year for supply teaching when I don’t have schools on the farm. I will be doing it privately and if you are ever interested, please do not hesitate to contact me. I also intend to do some 1:1 extra tuition using the farm for learning; if any of your parents/pupils are interested please do pass on my details. Thank you again for your enthusiasm and support, Yours sincerely Rosie Jeffries Farm Education Manager
