Muscular System Rocks! Ashlynn, Caitlyn, and Jayden Overall Function of the System http://www.innerbody.com/image/musfov.html The main function of the muscular system is movement. Muscles are the only tissue in the body that has the ability to contract and therefore move the other parts of the body. The muscular systems second function: the maintenance of posture and body position. Organs in the System ● smooth muscular tissue - the tissues that line the blood vessels and organs such as the stomach. not connected to the bones and are controlled by the autonomic system. ● skeletal muscles - helps hold the skeletal frame together, provides strength and mobility, and allows humans to walk upright. skeletal muscles are the most well known and familiar of muscles organ systems. some of the most common muscles in the body are the abdominals, pectorals, booty, and quadriceps. each of these are connected to tendons, ligaments, or skeletal tissues. ● cardiac muscle - made up of the heart which is 1 out of 650 muscles found in the human body. the heart is also one of the strongest muscles and beats at an average of 72 times per minute. the heart is made up of cardiac tissues and is one of the most muscular organs in the body. Function of Individual Organs Within the System Smooth Muscular Tissue - A muscle that controls itself and a person has no control over it which means mobility is involuntary Muscles are not connected to bones Smooth muscle tissue pushes food along the digestive tract and controls the flow of blood through blood vessels. Skeletal Muscles - Provide extension and contraction movements to the limbs, provide strength and support for the body, protect our internal organs and enable us to walk, jump, sit, run and carry. Cardiac Muscle ( Heart Muscle ) - The heart is made up exclusively of cardiac tissues and is one of the most muscular organs in the body, beating at an average of 72 times per minute Individual Cells, Enzymes, and Hormones Hormones: ➢Growth Hormone ○ Cause of growth stimulation ➢Insulin Growth ○ Your body uses sugar (glucose) from carbohydrates in food that you consume for energy Hormone or to store glucose for future use Cells: ➢Cardiac Muscle Cell Individual Cells, Enzymes, and Hormones Cells: ➢Cardiac Muscle Cell ○ Makes up Cardiac Muscle Growth Hormone Interaction with two Other Systems Skeletal System: Receptors in muscles provide the brain with information about body position and movement. The brain controls the contraction of skeletal muscle. Nervous System: The nervous system regulates the speed at which food moves through the digestive tract.
