ONCOLOGY
The course of oncology contains 40 hours exercises and 20 hours seminars. The aim of the course is:




Familiarise students with knowledge of cancer biology, immunology and genetics
Familiarise students with basic information of cancer diagnosis and oncological treatment
Present the latest development in diagnosis and cancer therapy
To present the principles of interdisciplinary cooperation in oncological treatment and the
benefits of such cooperation
The aim of the exercise during the course is:







Familiarise students with basics and imaging procedures for cancer
Provide students with practical skills in the interpretation of the degree of cancer based on
clinical examination and additional procedure /e.g.. RTG/
Familiarise students with basic principles of radiation and chemotherapy treatment
Familiarise students with states of emergency in oncology and their treatment
Provide students with skills in pain management and treatment of complications in patients
with caner
To detect cancer using phantom examination in the following diseases: testis, breast,
prostate, gland, sex organ
To provide students with skills in the following examinations: breast palpation, lymph nodes
palpation, gynaeological examination, skin lesions differentiation

Aims of the course:
1. to familiarise students with knowledge on cancer biology, immunology and genetics
2. to familiarise students with basic information on cancer diagnosis and oncological treatment

2. to provide students with practical skills of determining the stage of cancer based on clinical
examination and diagnostic modalities
3. to familiarise students with basic principles of radiatiotherapy and chemotherapy
4. to familiarise students with emergencies in oncology and their treatment
5. to provide students with skills of pain management and oncologic therapy complications
management
6. to detect cancer using phantom examination in the following diseases: testis, breast,
prostate gland and sex organs cancers
7. to provide students with skills of the following examinations: breast palpation, lymph nodes
palpation, gynecological examination, skin lesions differentiation.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

6. Form and conditions of crediting the course :
Systematic attending seminars and exercises is a base of admission to the final examination. A final
test consists of 80 questions prepared by employees.
Each seminar conducted by J. Terlikiewicz, M. Biedka, A. Lebioda, A. Żyromska, R. Makarewicz will be
preceded by a partial test consisting of 4 questions concerning seminars’ topics.
The points of these tests will be added to the points of the final tests. Thus, the total number of 100
points will embrace: 80 points of the final test and 20 points from the partial tests. Minimum 60
points is the condition of crediting.
7. Form and conditions of crediting the exercises:
Active attending all exercises (by patient, at bronchoscopy laboratory, at operating theatre, at the
room of Radiotherapy Service, at emergency room service).
8. Form and conditions of crediting the final test:
A student may attend the final examination after completion all seminars and exercises. The final
examination is organized in a written form.
9. Form of examination of the course:
Lack of exam, only credit with grade.
10. Conditions of making up for missed classes of justified and other reasons:
Exercises and seminars can be made up individually by a direct contact with mentors. A student must
pass overdue material arranging a meeting with a mentor or joining another group.
Only students with full attendance and passed partial tests can attend the final examination.
11. Deadlines of providing elaborations, reports and other required forms in the unit:
Reports are not required.
12. General and detailed of Environmental, Health and Safety rules required during realization of the
course in the unit:
Students are obliged to wear white doctor’s gowns, stethoscopes and shoes for change.
Required rules are in accordance with Environmental, Health and Safety regulations issued at
Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz.
