Background Since 2006, the Yale Global Health Leadership Institute (GHLI) has collaborated in Ethiopia with the Federal Ministry of Health and institutions of higher education as a key academic partner to strengthen leadership and quality of care across Ethiopian hospitals and the primary health care system. Yale Global Enterprises (YGE) is an Ethiopian-based subsidiary of Yale University that supports GHLI operations in Ethiopia for successful program implementation. YGE employs staff supporting GHLI projects in Ethiopia, manages local human resource and financial systems, and as of November 2015, has a country office in Addis Ababa to support GHLI projects and staff. Project Description Primary Healthcare Transformation Initiative (PTI) is a three-year program run by YGE that aims to transform management and leadership capacity at the woreda (district) level to build a culture of performance management and accountability and prepare the woreda to lead the primary health care units of the future. This work also involves collaboration with partners to build a quality culture, as performance management and accountability are foundational to efforts to promote quality delivery of healthcare services. The intern will collaborate with GHLI and YGE program leadership in Ethiopia and New Haven to assist with the evaluation of the PTI. In Ethiopia, the intern will work with PTI management mentors and senior regional managers to compile, analyze, and summarize PTI assessment data, including quantitative assessment results and qualitative interviews. 1 Key responsibilities 1. In collaboration with the Addis-based team and senior regional managers, the intern will support quarterly and mid-term data entry, cleaning, and analysis. 2. The intern will work with management mentors and senior regional managers in refining and editing case studies. 3. The intern will travel to PTI zones and regions to interview key stakeholders and collect qualitative data. The central office and senior regional managers will facilitate the visit for the intern. Qualifications Master’s students preferred Data entry and analysis skills using Excel and SPSS Qualitative data analysis preferred tool – Atlas.Ti Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills Well-developed cultural competency skills Interest in living abroad especially developing countries
