12:30 - The Checklist Investor
Marcia Couey
What type of investor are you? The differences between the lone, intuitive Test Pilot investor and the
systematic Airline Pilot investor are clear. While the Test Pilots in Tom Wolfe's The Right Stuff had a 25%
chance of dying, more than 99% of Airline Pilots today never experience a crash event in their lifetime, in spite
of increasing complexity of modern aircraft. Checklists are not sexy, but they help remove greed in a bull
market, fear and panic in a volatile or bear market. We will examine a few classic BI checklists, learn about the
checklists that Morningstar's analysts use to assess a stock's intrinsic value and the one mistake that everyone
makes. We examine how and when successful investment clubs (and fund management teams) use checklists
for collaborative judgments and portfolio decision-making.
