Elizabeth Poythress
CITIZEN ACTIVIST, PRESIDENT OF THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF GEORGIA
Elizabeth currently serves as the President of the League of Women Voters of Georgia,
a nonpartisan political organization that encourages the informed and active
participation of citizens in government and influences public policy through education
and advocacy. She is in her sixth year of Presidency with the League. She is a
registered Mediator in the State of Georgia and has served on a panel of mediators in
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) cases.
She is the Past President of the Georgia Society of Human Resource Management and
served on the Board of Directors of the organization until 2007. As First Lady of the
Georgia National Guard, while her husband, David, was Adjutant General of Georgia,
she was very involved with the families of the soldiers and airmen - both deployed and
at home, the Youth Challenge Program - a school for at-risk youth, and diplomatic and
humanitarian efforts with the Country of Georgia through a program with the U.S.
State Department.
Elizabeth’s professional background was in the public sector where she retired after 29
years as Director of Human Resources for Tredegar Film Products. She holds a B.S. in
Management from Shorter College and a M.S. in Human Resource Management from
Troy State University. She and her husband, David, live in Atlanta and have three
grown children, eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
