Artist INC is a collaborative partnership of the Charlotte Street Foundation, the Arts Council of Metropolitan Kansas City, and the UMKC Innovation Center. Originally launched in 2007 as KCArtistLink, Artist INC connects Kansas City artists of all disciplines to the tools, resources, and opportunities necessary to develop their entrepreneurial skills and strengthen their artistic practice. Artist INC workshops Artist INC workshops take the mystery and fear out of the business end of a fine arts practice. Through the use of fine arts specific content, peer-to-peer learning and artist mentoring, participating artists get the arts-specific techniques they can immediately use and the chance to practice and apply them with the support and guidance of other artists working through the same challenges. Developed for artists of all disciplines, visual artists, musicians, film makers, dancers, performers and writers come together for intensive work on the components of a viable and sustainable arts practice. The successful traditional Artist INC workshop launched in 2009, has been completed by over 200 fine artists in the Kansas City area. The Artist INC Online workshop was introduced in 2011 to meet the needs of those artists unable to attend the traditional workshop due to constraints of geography or schedule. And the Artist INC II program started in 2012—an eight-week intensive bootcamp for traditional program alumni to each take a current project and work the business aspects of it from every angle. Artist INC. is made possible through a grant from Leveraging Investments in Creativity (LINC), the innovative collaboration of Kansas City’s arts service organizations, and generous support from the Kansas City creative community and arts supporters, including the Muriel McBrien Kauffman Foundation; Francis Family Foundation; Steve and Karen Pack Family Foundation; American Century Investments; Hallmark Cards; the Missouri Arts Council; and the David T. Beals III Charitable Trust, Bank of America, Trustee. Artist INC also receives program support and guidance from the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance, the Kansas City Art Institute, the University of Missouri Extension, and numerous local area artists involved in the community planning process. Artist INC programs include the original Artist INC Live eight-week seminar that focuses on professional development and business training for emerging and mid-career artists; two speakers’ series that connect artists with national and local experts in arts entrepreneurship; the Artist INC website where artists can find the resources they need to shape their careers and grow their businesses; and the newly launched Artist INC Online, a web version of the live training seminar that significantly broadens geographic access to this groundbreaking program. In 2012, the program launched Artist INC II, an advanced project-based seminar available to all Artist INC Live alumni. Participating artists get: tools and skills in arts planning, marketing, finance, law, and technology; an increased knowledge of and ability to access local and national art business resources; a strategic artist's plan for pursuing, marketing and sustaining their art; and a long-term network of crossdiscipline, diverse artists to provide peer learning and support into the future www.artistinckc.com www.pushingtheflywheel.com www.USSourceLink.com/866.870.6500 [email protected]
