Harlem Renaissance Webquest
You will have 2 Class Periods to Complete this Assignment. Your PowerPoint will be due at the end
of the second class.
This is NOT Group Work! You are expected to compile, write, and present your own project.
Introduction
The Harlem Renaissance was a time from the 1920's through the early 1930's of excitement
and expression in the arts, music, literature, theater and politics. It was the first time
African American literature and arts attracted significant attention from the entire nation.
Task



You will be assigned an author, musician or artist from the Harlem Renaissance.
You will learn about the artists associated with your selected art form that your
person is associated with.
Finally, you will create a five slide PowerPoint presentation that displays your
creativity and your knowledge of one artist, as well as the major themes of the era.
Process
Step 1 You will select one of the following art forms: drama (performance) literature
(including poetry), art or music. While you will only be studying one artist, you should plan
to look briefly at all the artists in your category, understand the artistic and thematic
influences of the Harlem Renaissance, and be able to speak intelligently about the era.
Step 2 Here is a sampling of resources to help you begin your research, these are just a
STARTING POINT!! You must find at least 2 other sources. Keep a separate word
document of NOTES along with citations, so you can find it again, and give credit where it
is due.
