Market Manager Job Description
The Gallia County Farmers’ Market is a community market, supported by the City of Gallipolis, Gallia
County Commissioners, Gallia County Economic Development, OSU Extension-Gallia County, and a host
of other local agencies. The market will provide access to fresh agricultural, horticultural, and food
products to the citizens of Gallia and surrounding counties.
Market Manager Position
The Market Manager is a part time, contract position with primary responsibility being the day-to-day
operation of the farmers’ market. This will include an on-site presence at the market during all market
hours, as well as off-site work during non-market hours. The manager will report to the market board of
directors, who will set all market policy. In addition, the manager will represent the market to the
market’s vendors, the consumers, and the community.
Duties:




















Act as the lead contact for the Gallia County Farmers’ Market.
Assist in recruiting farmers and other producers to participate in the market.
Processes all vendor applications.
Ensure market operates in compliance with state law, health regulations and association rules
and regulations.
Arrives at the market site prior to market opening.
Oversee the set-up, operation and shut-down of the market. Ensure the market site is clean at
the end of each market day.
Work with farmers and other vendors to respond to questions and concerns.
Collect vender and stall fees.
Make bank deposits.
Maintain accurate records of payments and deposits.
Manage any market events during market sale day(s).
Maintains stall assignments.
Operate a Gallia County Farmers’ Market booth.
Disburse & collect, tokens for EBT program.
Assist in scheduling and hosting market events as directed by the organization’s management.
Enact promotions as directed by the organizations management.
Promote the market via email, website, social media, press releases, print advertisements,
billboards, and any other advertisement as determined by the market board of directors.
Establish relationships with business and community groups in the neighborhoods surrounding
the market to promote the market.
Attend board meetings.
Perform other duties assigned.
Qualifications:








Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Ability to resolve conflicts.
Must be very organized.
Possess a strong work ethic and be self-motivated. Must be extremely reliable.
Experience with computer including use of the internet and email, as well as programs such as
Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher.
Experience with social media.
A good sense of humor.
Agricultural experience is a plus.
Requirements:




This position requires the contractor to interact with farmers, vendors, and the general public.
This position requires the contractor to be able to lift 50lbs.
This position requires flexible working hours including evenings and weekend.
This position requires the employee to be standing and/or on their feet for long periods of time.
Compensation:

$3,000 plus 10% commission of all sponsorships secured by market manager.
