POSITION DESCRIPTION South Canterbury District Health Board (SCDHB) is committed “to enhance the health and independence of the people of South Canterbury”. Position Health Care Associate – Maternity and Universal Hearing Screener and Early Intervention (UNHSEIP) Screener Department Maternity Services Reports to Clinical Midwife Manager – Maternity Services and UNIHSEIP Coordinator Hours As per letter of appointment PERSON SPECIFICATIONS The Clinical Associate should demonstrate: Ability to communicate with and assist people Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability / willingness to work within a team and seek assistance when needed Cultural sensitivity and an ability to respect and acknowledge differences Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to adapt within a changing environment A commitment to quality care / service delivery KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Professional Responsibilities You will: Assist midwives and medical staff in providing care to women in the Maternity Unit. Ensure that the Maternity Unit is well stocked with supplies, and in a state of readiness for practitioners using the Unit Assist in providing care, support and assistance to patients (as directed by a midwife )Assist with maintenance of equipment used within the ward Offer hearing screening testing for all babies born in the SCDHB area, as part of the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening and Early Intervention Program Perform appropriate screening on babies where the offer is accepted. Ensure equipment is used appropriately, maintained as required and that routine checks completed. Assist in planning and implementation of processes to achieve requirements of the programme. Maintain accurate documentation, and collection of data as per requirements of the programme. Document1 Undertake any other related duties as requested by UNHSEIP Coordinator Ensure the service is delivered in a culturally sensitive manner Assist with unit clerical duties Undertake any other related duties as requested by Clinical Midwife Manager Quickly and effectively adjust behavior to meet a goal and/or changing circumstances, e.g. changed work schedules, patient needs Plan appropriately to complete the tasks associated with the UNHSEIP Screener role alongside any other role you may hold in the service. Document hearing screening hours into Trendcare Management of Care You will: Quickly and effectively adjust behaviour to meet a goal and/or changing circumstances, e.g. changed work schedules, patient needs Plan appropriately to complete the tasks associated with the CA role and any other role you may hold in the service. Inter-professional Health Care You will: Demonstrate active commitment to the Maternity Services and Timaru Hospital and Community Services by adhering to SCDHB's policies and procedures Demonstrate efficient and effective management of the unit resources Inter-personal Relationships You will: Promote a positive work environment by role modeling professional behaviour and by promoting the service to health professionals and consumers Demonstrate a professional, positive attitude to colleagues/women and their families at all times Quality Improvement You will: Adopt a culture of continuous quality improvement by monitoring service delivery performance and process to identify possible avenues of enhanced performance Health & Safety You will: Understand and apply the principles of Health & Safety and Risk Management to enable staff to recognise and respond pro-actively to potential risk within the unit Performance Document1 You will: Demonstrate responsibility and commitment to the service and screening programme requirements Complete and Pass the DHB based training course and requirements Participate and achieve the NZQA qualification with in one year from commencing work as a hearing screener Complete the annual ACE on line quizz and the practical assessment annually Have your AABR rate monitored on a monthly basis with the aim of reaching a refer rate of 10 % or less . If this is not achieved explore ways to improve practice. Engage in any updates and training that is directed by the MOH to meet requirements for the UNHSEIP Personal and Professional Development You will: Maintain a high level of personal motivation for work despite problems, changes, or daily work demands Participate in performance development to enhance practical skills.
