Research Senior Staff or Junior Faculty Position
A research senior staff or junior faculty position is available, depending on prior training,
experience, and aspiration, in the neuroreceptor imaging laboratory and Section of High
Resolution Brain PET imaging in the Department of Radiology at the Johns Hopkins
Hospital/School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD.
The neuroreceptor imaging laboratory conducts research using PET, SPECT, structural
MRI, and functional MRI, to investigate brain chemistry and activity, especially as it
relates to neuropsychiatric and substance abuse disorders and cognitive neuroscience.
The research and training opportunities can focus on NIH and private funded imaging
studies of neuropsychiatric and substance abuse disorders, focusing on pathophysiology
of behavior and treatment outcomes; and new drug development in collaboration with
large Pharmaceutical Companies in Phase I and above clinical trials with
neuroimaging, and methods development, including radiotracer development for animal
and human imaging.
The applicant will have the opportunity to manage and coordinate clinical and
translational research protocols and to interact as a liaison with neuroscience groups in
Psychiatry, Neurology, Psychology, and Cognitive Neuroscience to bridge these
disciplines with neuroimaging. The applicant will participate in manuscript and grant
preparation as part of the laboratory projects (with the possibility of a mini-project or
future independent project). The applicant also will assist in lab management/scientific
endeavors including study design and analysis, new protocol development, and
supervision of staff on complex recruitment issues involving psychiatric and neurologic
patients, and others with substance abuse disorders and cognitive impairments. The
laboratory has over 20 full-time and part-time faculty, research fellows, and staff, and
hence the scientific and managerial opportunities and the variety of research projects
are numerous.
Applicants should have a Master’s or Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent degrees.
Proficient English writing and speaking skills are required. A background or strong
interest in Psychopharmacology, or Physiological Psychology, or Psychiatry/Clinical
Psychology, or Cognitive Neuroscience is required. Neuroimaging experience is
helpful. Salary is commensurate with experience and training. Consideration for the
junior faculty position is dependent on prior experience, publications, and references.
