Public Affairs and Foreign Commercial Service of the Embassy of the United States of America are pleased to invite you to the lecture “Drug Discovery goes back to School” by Barbara S. Slusher, PhD, MAS, Professor of Neurology, Psychiatry, and Neuroscience, Director, Brain Science Institute Drug Discovery Program Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, U.S.A. On Thursday, February 5 at 15:00 - American Center, Tržiště 13, Praha 1 – Malá Strana The lecture will highlight current trends in drug discovery in academic setting and experience learned in the translation of discoveries into new medicines. The details of the changing environment and examples of academic led drug discovery programs will be reviewed. A joint drug discovery project between Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD, U.S.A.) and the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic will be presented which is focused on the identification of proprietary prodrugs of the enzyme human Glutamate Carboxy-Peptidase II (GCPII) Inhibitors with broad therapeutic utility ranging from inflammatory bowel disease, schizophrenia, stroke, and cognition improvement in multiple sclerosis. The seminar will be opened by Ambassador Andrew H. Schapiro. Deputy Minister of Health Josef Vymazal will give a brief survey of Czech –U.S. joint scientific research projects.
