 Schizophrenia
is a chronic psychotic disorder
characterized by disturbed behavior,
thinking, emotions and perceptions
 Acute
episode of schizophrenia are
characterized by delusions, hallucinations,
illogical thinking, incoherent speech and
bizarre behavior
Major diagnostic features of schizophrenia;
A. Two or more of the following must be
present for a significant portion of time
over the course of a 1-month period:
- delusions
- hallucinations
- speech that is either incoherent or
characterized by marked loosing
associations
- disorganized or catatonic behavior
- negative features (e.g. flattened affect)
 B.
Dysfunctions in work, interpersonal
relations or self-care
 Sign of disturbance for at least 6 months,
with at least 1 month of symptoms listed.
