Internal Ref# 13 Title of Research Project: Identifying genes encoding for “elicitors” in pathogenic fungi of tomato, utilizing computational and molecular methodologies. Email: [email protected] Phone: 972-3-9683644 Institute: Plant science Project Leader: Dr. Arye Harel Department: Vegetable research The research team (other scientists): Short Description of Research Project (3-5 lines): We intend to utilize comparative network analysis based on multiple fungal genomes to identify fungal “elicitors” that induce plant defense mechanisms. The role of computationally identified “elicitors” in pathogenicity of selected pathogens (Alternaria solani, Botrytis cinerea, Botrytis cinerea) on tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) will be validated using molecular and biochemical approaches (i.e., correlating their transcription, and the effect of their genetic inhibition/activation on pathogenicity). Required Qualifications of Visiting Scientist: Education: PhD in biology With preference for work with plant pathogens using standard microbiological and molecular methodologies. Programming courses, or minor in computer science. Scientific Experience: Programming scripts – perl, python. Bioinformatics analysis. Molecular biology. Abilities and Skills: Willing to learn and experience new fields, strong determination, and dedication.
