LASA – JOB DESCRIPTION WRITER / EDITOR Main purpose and scope of the job: The delivery of social welfare law information and casework support through Lasa’s rightsnet website, building the knowledge, skills and capacity of advice workers and related professionals to provide quality advice services to socially-excluded communities. DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Write accessible, accurate, uptodate content on welfare benefit and tax credit issues for publication to rightsnet, including our daily news service. Encourage and facilitate the use of rightsnet by advisers and related professionals, including our online adviser discussion forums. Contribute to the discussion forums & provide moderation of user-generated content. Contribute to the continued development of the rightsnet service into other areas of social welfare law. Maintain an awareness of the needs of advisers and users of Lasa services, and contribute to the development of the service, including through the creation of new resources and the use of new channels and methods of delivery, as appropriate. Ensure excellent customer relationship management including Lasa’s relationships with its freelance consultants and contributors to its services. Ensure that the service is delivered to the highest standard, is accessible and quality assured and, where appropriate, delivered in accordance with funder requirements. Contribute to the promotion and marketing of the service. Contribute to the effective administration of the service including liaising with Lasa’s central services and finance teams as appropriate. Work with the head of advice services and others as appropriate to ensure relevant grant conditions and income generation targets are met, and in identifying new income generation and funding opportunities. Keep up to date on relevant welfare rights developments. Maintain an interest in how information technology developments can assist in the delivery of advice services. Contribute to Lasa activities as appropriate, including ensuring the service's contribution to Lasa’s strategic planning process. Maintain and improve competencies through continuous professional development. Abide by organisational policies, codes of conduct and practices. Support and promote diversity and equality of opportunity in the workplace. Treat with confidentiality any personal, private or sensitive information about individual organisations and or clients or staff etc. Be flexible and carry out other associated duties as may arise, develop or be assigned in line with the broad remit of the post. LASA – PERSON SPECIFICATION WRITER / EDITOR This person specification sets out the essential, minimum qualities we are seeking for this post. Please ensure that your application demonstrates how you meet the criteria. You may include voluntary, unpaid and paid work. You will have Significant welfare rights experience, including the delivery of services to frontline advice organisations Detailed and uptodate knowledge of the UK’s welfare benefits and tax credit system. Experience of researching and writing accessible, accurate, uptodate content on welfare benefit and tax credit issues for publication. The ability to absorb legal information and case law accurately and quickly, and to communicate complex legal ideas clearly and concisely Exceptional command of written English, including the ability to convey complex material in plain English, excellent summarising and paraphrasing skills, a good sensitivity to target audience, and an excellent command of syntax, punctuation, vocabulary and tone. The ability to encourage and facilitate use of the service by advisers and related professionals. An ability to contribute to the continued development of the rightsnet service, An understanding of how information technology developments can support the delivery of advice services. Excellent verbal communication skills. Very good IT skills – for example in the use of email; word processing; and the internet - and the ability to develop appropriate skills – for example in the use of web publishing software. Capacity to work well under pressure, and to prioritise and work to strict deadlines. The ability to work well on own, and experience of managing own workload. Very strong interpersonal and team working skills. Ability to promote Lasa services. An understanding of and commitment to Lasa’s equal opportunities policy and how this relates to service delivery.
