Position Announcement Executive Director: Cape Fear Resource Conservation & Development Council, Inc. Cape Fear Resource Conservation & Development Council (Council) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that assists local governments and communities in Southeastern NC. The key role of the organization is to promote and undertake projects that: (1) protect soil, water, forest, and agricultural resources and (2) improve the quality of life and social conditions in the region. Projects completed by Council benefit the region by protecting natural and human resources while promoting economic development. The Council works with corporations, private entities, local governments, and community-interest groups in Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover and Pender Counties. The Council’s objective is to identify and secure grants and private funding to initiate and complete projects that enhance the quality of life in the region. The Executive Director (ED) will act as the main spokesperson and representative of the organization and will be responsible for general oversight activities including administrative maintenance, record keeping, budget management, grant writing, and fundraising. The ED will report directly to the Council Board. A detailed list of job responsibilities may be found on the organization’s web page at: www.capefearrcd.org MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree (BS or BA) from an accredited college or university in Physical Science, Earth Science, Economic/Finance, Governmental Studies, Public Administration/Policy, Urban/Regional Planning, Ag-Engineering, Rural Studies, any Natural Resources field, or other related fields of study. Three years experience in a supervisory, management, or key capacity role. Two years of successful fundraising for non-profits or other. Two years of successful grant writing experience. Excellent written, oral communication skills and public speaking skills. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people. Proficient in office computer skills and office software including Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, Excel, and Power Point. • Equivalent combinations of experience and education will be considered by the Cape Fear RC&D Board Background in resource conservation and experience in identifying and alleviating problems related to economic development, the natural environmental or rural development; marketing of new concepts and recruiting others to assist with planning, financial, and implementation of these projects; and developing local leadership to successfully coordinate multiple projects simultaneously is strongly desired. A valid North Carolina Driver License is required. Duties include: Develop/implement short-term and long-term fundraising strategies and programs to support the organization’s annual fiscal requirements. Plan and initiate fundraising events, donorship programs, sponsorships, public and private funding sources to meet RC&D’s annual budget, program, and fiscal financial demands. Lead the organization team (including staff and interns) to accomplish the longterm and day-to-day mission of Cape Fear RC&D. Initiate and complete assignments, plans, and policy development authorized by the RC&D Board. Provide leadership in developing programs, organizational, and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff. Develop strategic plans, annual work plans, annual budgets, and annual fundraising plans that reflect an overall goal of programmatic sustainability. Manage and administer Cooperative Agreements, grant awards and projects to meet deliverables and reporting requirements in a timely and accurate fashion. Manage an annual budget and ensure that the organization operates in a fiscally sound manner within the budget confines. Establish and maintain effective working relationships and cooperative arrangements with donors, community groups, partners and organizations as well as city, county, state and federal agencies. Build and foster political and governmental relationships at the local, State, and Federal levels. Perform local and regional travel as needed (periodic overnight travel required). Other routine assigned duties determined necessary by the Board of Directors such as conducting monthly Board and Committee meetings. Compensation: The position is currently budgeted for 24 hours per week and is supported by the successful fundraising efforts of the Council Board and staff. Salary is commensurate with experience.
