In 1919, the school was elevated into a National Agricultural High School to offer Vocational Agriculture then metamorphosed into a college. The Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education with major fields in Agronomy and Animal Science was offered. In 1970, a Technical Agricultural Division was created and the Bachelor of Science In Agriculture (BSA) Curriculum was offered. The pioneer sections under the division were: Soil Science, Agronomy, and Animal Science. In 1972, the Agribusiness and Economics section was added simultaneously offering Bachelor of Agribusiness Management (BABM), and Agricultural Economics as a major field in the BSA curriculum. On June 15, 1977, (MSAC Admin. Memo No. 2 S. 1977) eight departments were organized under the Technical Agriculture Division: Plant Science, Animal Science, Soil Science and Chemistry, Veterinary Science, Biological Sciences, Agribusiness and Economics, Agricultural Engineering, and Agricultural Education. A reorganization was instituted in 1982 that dissolved the Technical Agriculture Division and was replaced with the creation of the College of Agriculture, Engineering and Forestry with nine departments. These departments were: Plant Science, Animal and Veterinary Science, Crop Protection, Soil Science, Forestry, Agricultural Business and Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Mechanics, Agricultural Engineering, and Agroforestry Technical Curriculum. The Department of Agricultural Extension was added in 1984. Having grown in terms of faculty, facilities and programs, the MSAC’s organizational scheme had to be restructured into various colleges which was implemented in 1985. This also paved way for the division of the College of Agriculture, Engineering and Forestry into three colleges with the College of Agriculture retaining the BSA and BSAB in its curricular offerings. In 1986, MSAC was elevated to Benguet State University by PD 2010. The College was the biggest college with nine departments. In 1991, the Two-year Agroforestry Curriculum was transferred from the College of Forestry to the College of Agriculture creating the Department of Agroforestry. In 1992, Sericulture was offered as a new major field in BSA and in 1993, Agroforestry was added. The BSA Curriculum was revised in 1993 pursuant to DECS Order No. 52, S. 1992 and No. 3, S. 1993. In 1999, the Bachelor of Science in Development Communication was offered. In 2000, BSU had been adjudged as one of the six centers of excellence in Agriculture Education out of 111 SUC’s. In 2009, the College regained its status as Center of Development in BSA. In addition, the BSA degree was accredited as Level III by AACCUP since 2007. In 2010, it was distinguished as one of the National Universities and Colleges for Agriculture program by the Commission on Higher Education– National Agriculture and Fisheries System. It is the leading College in the Philippines to offer academic program on Organic Agriculture. Today, the College of Agriculture continues to shine through the awards and recognitions received by faculty, staff and students in various fields of endeavors.
