Pacific Southwest District of the Church of the Brethren
Russ Matteson, District Executive Minister
Summer 2016
Greetings and blessings to your congregation from the Pacific Southwest District Church of the Brethren
Board of Administration! We hold you and your congregation in our prayers as you continue the work of
Jesus through the ministry of your church.
The Pacific Southwest District works to support Church of the Brethren congregations and ministers in
Arizona and California. Funds entrusted to the District are used:
❖ to encourage the connection
of youth to the church
beyond their congregation;
❖
❖
❖
❖
❖
❖
❖
❖ to provide training for licensed ministers through
Training in Ministry (TRIM) and SEBAH (Seminario Biblico
Anabautista Hispano) and Seminary;
to support pastors (and their spouses) with an annual retreat and time of renewal;
events that provide for leadership training and development of congregational leaders and pastors;
to plan our combined ministry of the through leadership of the District Board;
to help congregations support their ability to employ pastoral leadership and explore new ways of
being in ministry;
to gather the churches at District Conference for worship, renewal, and business;
to employ staff that serves and supports the congregations in a variety of ways;
and in many other ways build up and support the work of Jesus through and among our district and
congregations.
We hope that your congregation will prayerfully consider
providing financial support to the Pacific Southwest District
in your budget for 2017. Yes, we are able to do much of
what we do because of the gifts from those congregations
who have come and gone before us. And yes, the support
of each member congregation is an important and valued
gift to our ongoing ministry and connection with one
another as members of the Brethren body of Christ in this
part of God’s world.
Christ’s continued blessings on your ministry, and prayers for the life of faith we share together,
Marye Martinez
