Vote Necessary: Majority
Intent: To show the support of the Associated Students of Montana State University (ASMSU)
for the modifications necessary to make the Strand Union Building (SUB) Theater a functional
space for the ASMSU Procrastinator Theatre’s operation.
Whereas: The ASMSU Procrastinator Theatre, a second-run movie theater operated by ASMSU
Films, provides a safe, non-alcoholic, alternative activity for students, especially those living in
the Montana State University (MSU) Residence Halls;
Whereas: A 200-seat Procrastinator Theatre, located in the SUB, was a key selling point for the
Student Facilities Enhancement Project (SFEP);
Whereas: The SUB is a student-owned building and the SFEP is being financed, in part, by
student fees;
Whereas: To maintain its quality and benefit to students, the Procrastinator must provide a
movie experience substantially superior to current consumer technology;
Whereas: The SUB Theater projection booth, as currently designed, will not accommodate
Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) Digital or 35mm movie projection equipment;
Whereas: Without this equipment, the SUB Theatre will not be a viable location for the
Procrastinator Theatre;
Whereas: The Associated Students acknowledge the potentially substantial costs associated with
redesigning the projection booth, but also recognize that the future success of the Procrastinator
Theatre in the SUB depends on this redesign;
Whereas: Both ASMSU and Auxiliary Services have a vested interest in the success of the
Procrastinator Theatre in its intended SUB location;
Whereas: While the Associated Students support using the SUB Theatre for multiple uses, they
also require that it fulfill the purpose for which it was intended;
Whereas: To avoid additional costs, the redesign must be executed quickly and decisively;
Let it be resolved that: The Associated Students of Montana State University request that the
SUB Theater be redesigned to accommodate 35mm projection equipment; and,

Let it be further resolved that: The resulting costs be shared equitably between funds currently
appropriated for the purchase of a new projector, the SUB Renovation contingency fund,
ASMSU and Auxiliary Services; and,
Let it be finally resolved that: A copy of this resolution be sent to the ASMSU President Tegan
Melloy, ASMSU Attorney Phylis Bock, Auxiliaries Director Tom Stump, Swank Superintendent
Josh Mullaney, SUB Renovation Manager Butch Damberger, MSU President Geoff Gamble,
A&E Construction Administrator Kris Koessl, Assistant Vice-President of Student Affairs Glen
Lewis, Project Manager Bill Mackin, The Exponent, and The Bozeman Daily Chronicle.
