advanc Issue 1 October 2012 Lately @ Valley There are many new and exciting developments happening across both campuses, a few of which I would like to highlight: Building works at both campuses: theatres, hybrid cath lab, new ICU, beds and total redevelopment at The Valley, and a new pool, gym and 11 palliative care beds at South Eastern. Foxtel and new menus. 7x24 hour CMO presence in ICU, together with Consultant Intensivists, and a new 10 bed ICU opening in November. Australia’s first 3D theatre coming to The Valley by late October. The new Siemens / Maquet hybrid theatre / cath lab—an Australian first. Ordered the 2nd in Australia weight bearing / low dose orthopaedic imaging system (EOS). Other new technologies in theatre that will enable an expanded range of procedures to be undertaken. New services: cardiothoracic surgery, sleep disorders, neurosurgery, interventional radiology to name just a few Craft meetings with our major specialty groups; Orthopaedics, Rehabilitation, Urology, General Surgery, ENT and Cardiology thus far. Arguably, The Valley and South Eastern are the best located private hospitals in Victoria. New services and standards, together with active marketing of our 7x24 hrs ED will capture more cases. Going forward, we have a vision - “to be the preferred major acute hospital network in South East Victoria” - The Valley as the high acuity campus, and South Eastern as a critical support service, including an expanding range of sub-acute programs. There is more to come following the current expansion, consulting building, more theatres and another 30 bed wing for The Valley and more rehab beds at South Eastern. We are excited by these developments and can definitely feel the momentum as new specialists are getting on board by the day. These developments are being driven by our owners, backed by Archer capital, one of Australia’s largest private equity groups with a diverse investment portfolio. I look forward to you being part of the exciting journey as we truly put The Valley and South Eastern on the map. Neil Henderson Chief Executive Officer Hybrid Theatre/Cathlab As part of The Valley 30 million dollar redevelopment and expanding specialties to become the acute “full service” facility for a catchment of over 1.5m people. Our CEO Neil Henderson is committed to excellence in patient care and has paved the way for 3 “firsts” in technology advancements to be purchased by the hospital. In September we purchased a $4m world first state of the art hybrid operating theatre/cath lab. This technology allows Cardiologists and Surgeons the flexibility and speed to go from an investigative procedure to full open heart surgery without moving the patient. Pictured are Dr Dharsh Fernando and Dr Garry Barron at the unofficial launch of the hybrid theatre on 17 September. This was an exciting event celebrated by Cath Lab and Theatre staff. In addition to cardiac and vascular procedures, the new hybrid’s (Siemens Zeego and Maquet Magnus table) together with the EOS spinal imaging system ordered, will make The Valley a most advanced and leading site for spinal and neurosurgery. We are having an official launch for the Hybrid Theatre/Cath Lab on the 17th of November where we have invited a range of Medical Professionals to come along and learn more about the features of the Theatre/Cath Lab and take a tour. We are expecting a good turnout. Red September In the month of September Healthe Care launched a fund raising campaign in support of the good work being done by the Heart Foundation. In order to raise funds and generate awareness, Healthe Care sold branded red caps across its sites. Staff were encouraged to purchase a cap and wear it to work during the month of September to show their support for this worthwhile cause. 100% of all proceeds raised from the sale of caps was donated to the Heart Foundation. Here at The Valley we raised a total of $1,344 for the Heart Foundation. Thank you to all those who bought a cap.
