OVER *If you have trouble drinking at the pace of every 15 minutes, please slow down to every 30-60 minutes. It is counterproductive if you throw up the solution. It is not a race. The goal is to drink all of the solution so it can do its job. Tips for improved bowel prep: • Bowel prep solutions taste best well-chilled • You may add Crystal Light or a tea bag to mask the taste • If lukewarm liquids are preferred, remove the dose from refrigerator for 15-30 minutes before drinking. • Drink the whole dose quickly rather than sipping small amounts • Try drinking the bowel prep solution through a straw • Rinse mouth with water, clear soda, or mouthwash after drinking • Suck on hard candy or lollipops (No red or purple) Tips to avoid a sore bottom from frequent bowel movements: • Apply diaper rash cream/zinc oxide LIBERALLY after each trip to the bathroom • Avoid rubbing; gently pat area with wet washcloth or pre-moistened wipe or rinse with water • Wipe with refrigerated Tucks or Fleet relief pads (available over the counter) • Have reading material handy in the bathroom, MP3 player, iPod, etc. LOW-RESIDUE DIET OPTIONS FOODS TO CHOOSE Breads & Starches White bread, roll, biscuit White rice or noodles Plain crackers Potato roll Skinless cooked potato Pretzels Puffed rice, Rice Krispies Meat Skinless chicken Skinless turkey Fish or seafood Fruit Applesauce Soft honeydew or cantaloupe Canned fruit without seeds or skin Ripe banana Vegetables Cooked or canned vegetables without seeds (examples: green beans, carrots, potatoes) Desserts Vanilla wafers Sherbet Animal crackers Other Eggs Chicken noodle soup without vegetables Margarine, mayonnaise, mustard All items included on the clear liquid diet FOODS TO AVOID Breads & Starches Whole wheat breads, cereals, crackers, rolls Whole wheat pasta Brown or wild rice Breads or cereals with nuts, seeds, or fruit Buckwheat Granola Cornbread Pumpernickel bread Meat Tough fibrous meats Fruit Other raw fruit Prunes or prune juice Raisins and dried fruit Berries Vegetables Raw or partially cooked vegetables Corn, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, onions, cauliflower, beans, peas, winter squash, sauerkraut Desserts Those with nuts, seeds or fruit Other Nuts, seeds, popcorn
