Cell Modeling Project You have been asked to develop a 3-D model of a cell. The purpose of the model is to help students understand the structure and function of the animal cell and the plant cell. Goal: To develop a model a 3-D model of either the plant or animal cell to help someone visualize the structure and function of a cell You will be assigned either a Plant Cell or Animal Cell. This will determine what organelles are present. You must determine, based on your assigned cell what organelles should be present. Nucleus Cell Wall Ribosomes Research and add one additional organelle. Required Organelles Cell Membrane Cytoplasm Vacuole Cell Wall Mitochondria Chloroplast Grouping: You will be able to work with either a. yourself or b. a partner of your choosing. Grading: Your grade will be determined by the following: 1. 2. 3. 4. Rough Design and Materials Cell Model Rubric Model delivered in a timely manner. Feedback from fellow students on creativity and neatness. Project Scope: The purpose of models are to help individuals understand the parts of a system. Your model must do the following: - Accurately depicted the structure of organelles in a cell. Accurately describe the function of each organelle in a cell. Be 3-Dimensional. Meaning you will have a different view as you change your angle. (Three Dimensional computer models will be acceptable.) Be creative. Project Parts: 1. Research each organelle. Determine the appearance and overall function. 2. Design: Each group must submit a typed “Cell Design Summary”. Cell Design Summary 1. Rough Sketch of how you want your cell to look. 2. Brief summary of how you will make your model. This must include a list of materials you will need to make your model 3. Model Building: Students will begin to construct their model. 4. Model Delivery: Students will place hand in their models to be viewed by the class and grading. Students may be asked to discuss a little bit about their models. Materials: Students are free to us any materials they wish to help complete the model. The only exception would be not to use any nuts as materials. This is due to students with nut allergies.
