POLICYONTHERECRUITMENTOFEX-OFFENDERS
DROMANTINESUMMERCAMP
PolicyStatement
1.DromantineSummerCampcompliesfullywiththeCodeofPractice,issuedbytheDepartmentof
Justice,inconnectionwiththeuseofinformationprovidedtoregisteredpersons,theirnominees
andotherrecipientsofinformationbyAccessNIunderPartVofthePoliceAct1997,forthepurposes
ofassessingApplicant’ssuitabilityforemploymentpurposes,voluntarypositions,licensingandother
relevantpurposes.Weundertaketotreatallapplicantsforpositionsfairlyandnottodiscriminate
unfairlyorunlawfullyagainstthesubjectofaDisclosureonthebasisofconvictionorother
informationrevealed.
2.ThispolicyismadeavailabletoallDisclosureapplicantsattheoutsetoftherecruitmentprocess.
3.DromantineSummerCamparecommittedtoequalityofopportunity(seeseparateEqual
OpportunitiesPolicy)tofollowingpractices,andtoprovidingaservicewhichisfreefromunfairand
unlawfuldiscrimination*.Weensurethatnoapplicantormemberofstaffissubjecttoless
favourabletreatmentonthegroundsofgender,maritalstatus,racecolour,nationality,ethnicor
nationalorigins,age,sexualorientation,responsibilitiesfordependants,physicalormentaldisability
politicalopinionoroffendingbackground,orisdisadvantagedbyanyconditionwhichcannotbe
showntoberelevanttoperformance.
4.DromantineSummerCampactivelypromotesequalityofopportunityforallwiththerightmixof
talent,skillsandpotential,andwelcomesapplicationsfromawiderangeofcandidates,including
thosewithcriminalrecords.Theselectionofcandidatesforinterviewwillbebasedonthosewho
meettherequiredstandardofskills,qualificationsandexperienceasoutlinedintheessentialand
desirablecriteria.
5.WewillrequestanAccessNIDisclosureonlywherethisisconsideredproportionateandrelevant
totheparticularposition.Thiswillbebasedonathoroughriskassessmentofthatpositionand
havingconsideredtherelevantlegislationwhichdetermineswhetherornotaStandardorEnhanced
Disclosureisavailabletothepositioninquestion.WhereanAccessNIDisclosureisdeemed
necessaryforapostorposition,allapplicantswillbemadeawareattheinitialrecruitmentstage
thatthepositionwillbesubjecttoaDisclosureandthatDromantineSummerCampwillrequestthe
individualbeingofferedthepositiontoundergoanappropriateAccessNIDisclosurecheck
6.InlinewiththeRehabilitationofOffenders(Exceptions)(NorthernIreland)Order1979(as
amendedin2014),DromantineSummerCampwillonlyaskaboutconvictionswhicharedefinedas
“notprotected”forthepurposesofobtainingaStandardorEnhanceddisclosure.
7.Weundertaketoensureanopenandmeasuredandrecordeddiscussiononthesubjectofany
offencesorothermattersthatmightbeconsideredrelevantforthepositionconcernedegthe
individualisapplyingforadrivingjobbuthasacriminalhistoryofdrivingoffences.Failuretoreveal
informationthatisdirectlyrelevanttothepositionsoughtcouldleadtowithdrawalofthe
conditionalofferofemployment.
8.DromantineSummerCampmayconsiderdiscussinganymatterrevealedinaDisclosure
Certificate.WeareonlyabletodiscusswhatiscontainedonaDisclosureCertificate,andnotwhat
mayhavebeensentunderseparatecoverbythePolice,withthesubjectofthatDisclosurebefore
consideringwithdrawingaconditionalofferofemployment.
9.WeensurethatallthoseinDromantineSummerCampwhoareinvolvedintherecruitment
processhavebeensuitablytrainedtoidentifyandassesstherelevanceandcircumstancesof
Disclosureinformation.Wealsoensurethattheyhavereceivedappropriateguidanceandtrainingin
therelevantlegislationrelatingtoemploymentofex-offenders(e.g.theRehabilitationofOffenders
(NorthernIreland)Order1978).
10.WeundertaketomakeeverysubjectofanAccessNIDisclosureawareoftheexistenceofthe
CodeofPractice,andtomakeacopyavailableonrequest.
HAVINGACRIMINALRECORDWILLNOTNECESSARILYDEBARYOUFROMWORKINGWITH
DROMANTINESUMMERCAMP.THISWILLDEPENDONTHENATUREOFTHEPOSITION,TOGETHER
WITHTHECIRCUMSTANCESANDBACKGROUNDOFYOUROFFENCESOROTHERINFORMATION
CONTAINEDONADISCLOSURECERTIFICATEORPROVIDEDDIRECTLYTOUSBYTHEPOLICE.
*WeareonlyabletodiscusswhatiscontainedonaDisclosureCertificateandnotwhatmayhave
beensentunderseparatecoverbythePolice.
