SNC 2D Notes: Luminous Sources
A. Where Does Light Energy Come From
Light energy comes from other forms of energy. In luminous objects
some forms of energy can be converted into light energy. The forms of
energy that commonly converted into light energy are chemical energy,
electrical energy, and thermal (heat) energy.
Types of Sources of Light
Light produced by the Sun or other stars are called natural light. Light
produced through human technology is called artificial light.

without a rise in temperature. An example of this is a glow stick.

7. On the other hand, fluorescent light is produced when an object has
absorbed invisible
radiation. Fluorescent light sources sources are
efficient and last longer than incandescent light sources.

they are exposed to electromagnetic radiation.

10. An electric discharge is a method for producing light in which a

11. Similar to water, light travels like a wave. This wave is called an
wave.
12. The speed of light is
m/s.
13. The colour of light is determined by the different

wavelength while
has the shortest.

14. __________________________ objects cannot produce their own light.
They may appear bright by reflecting light from a luminous object. The
is an example of a non-luminous light source.
