As of: September 2016 UTILISING ALCOHOLIC FERMENTATION RESIDUES OBJECTIVE AND ACTIVITIES The project was carrying out a study to examine how wastewater from alcohol production (dunder) could be used to produce biogas energy. To this end, the project assessed the financial and technical feasibility of recovering energy from the wastewater through biogas technology in three representative alcohol production plants belonging to the state-owned UKRSPIRT group. This also involved the preparation of Project Design Documents (PDDs) in order to acquire financing as part of a Joint Implementation Project. Joint implementation (JI) refers to a flexible mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In this way, UKRSPIRT helped provide a basis for making investment decisions. Furthermore, the study was building capacity in biogas technology in Ukraine by closely involving the Ministry of Agrarian Policy’s research institute URIABF in the analysis.
