PLACE OF BIRTH & EDUCATION
1. Born in Asbury Park, N.J.
2. Grew up & educated in Neptune, N.J.
3. Received nursing diploma in 1956 from Ann May School of Nursing in
Neptune, N.J. receiving awards for the "highest academic score" and "best
bedside nurse".
4. Received BS in Nursing Science & graduated magna cum laude from
Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth Texas in 1975.
5. Received a Masters of Science in Nursing Administration & graduated summa cum laude from the
University of California in San Francisco in 1981.
6. Graduated from the Air Force Operating Room Nurses Supervisor Program at Keesler AFB in July
1971.
7. Graduated from the Air Command & Staff College in 1977.
8. Completed the AF Air War College in 1979.
9. Graduated from Flight Nurse School in 1967.
SERVICE DATES

Retired as a Colonel:
1 January 1993
Total Service Time: 30 years & 1 month, 28 days active duty and two years in AF Reserve for a total of
32 years, two months service
ASSIGNMENTS
1. Served at several installations as Operating room and Central Supply Supervisor/Director including:
Otis AFB, Mass; Bunker Hill AFB, Indiana; Tuslog Det 37 in Ankara Turkey; Sheppard AFB in Texas;
David Grant Medical Center in California; and USAF Medical Center at Keesler AFB, Mississippi
2. Served for two years at Scott Air Force Base Illinois as Flight Nurse & Flight Nurse Instructor from Dec
1968 to Dec 1970 during the Vietnam War. While there, designed and taught the mandatory course to
all physicians, nurses and technicians on the aeromedical equipment used aboard the various aircraft.
Prior to the start of the program went to the Bird Respirator Corporation in California for training and as a
result, helped design a baffel system for the respirator for use on all aeromedical flights worldwide to
prevent backwash into the respirator. Was a member of a "two person team" to go to California &
evaluate and "medically accept" the new McDonald Douglas DC-9 flying hospital, The Nightingale. Also
flew as AF National Guard Instructor on their aeromedical flights to near off shore destinations.
2. Selected & served as Consultant to the AF Surgeon General in Operating Room Nursing from 1984 to
l990. In 1990 was selected as the Chief Consultant to the AF Surgeon General in Operating
Room/Central Sterile Supply. This position bought additional responsibilities worldwide including:
(a) Consultant to Defense Medical Standardization Board working on the Tri-Service DEPMEDS
Project resulting in the first tri-service air transportable hospitals with all required equipment used
eventually world-wide
(b) Personnel Consultant to AFMPC on Operating Room and nurse assignments
(c) Air Force Consultant to the WARMEDS and JHMET Panels
(d) Augmentee to Health Management Inspection Teams
(e) Helped evaluate various overseas installations
(f) Assisted in the design of a possible "emergency hospital" in Guam & evaluated and updated
the one in South Korea
OTHER ACCOMPLISHMENTS
1. Spearheaded & coordinated several important educational programs including the Operating Room
Nursing & OR Management Courses, both taught at Keesler.
2. Was conceptual planner, founder and developer of the US Air Force Operating Room Nurses
Newsletter. Was Editor of the Newsletter from 1979 through 1992.
3. Had 28 professional articles published in the Air Force Newsletter, AORN Journal, Nursing
Administration Quarterly, and Aviation, Space & Environmental Medicine.
4. Developed the Perioperative Nursing Record which became the standard for use throughout the Air
Force.
5. Received First Place for the 1974 Depuy sponsored AORN Journal Award for "Excellence in Medical
Journalism".
PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS & AWARDS
1. Was prominent in numerous professional organizations including the Association of Operating Room
Nurses serving as a delegate in several national congresses.
2. Was active in the American Nurses Association, American Heart Association, Air Force Association,
and the Aerospace Medical Association of which she is still a member.
3. In the Aerospace Medical Asssociation:
(a) Was President of the Flight Nurse Section from 1979--1980
(b) On Membership Committee from 1884 to 1989
(c) Was Chairman of Membership Committee from 1984--1989
(d) Served on the Executive Council from l988--1991
(e) Received the great honor of being selected for the Brig Gen E.A. Hoefly Award for clinical
and managerial excellence in 1991
(f) Honored by being selected as an Aerospace Fellow in l986 of which she is still a Fellow today
MILITARY DECORATIONS
1. Personal decorations/medals: Legion of Merit; Air Force Meritorious Service Medal with two oak
clusters; Joint Services Commendation Medal; Air Force Commendation Medal.
2. Other decorations/medals: Humanitarian Service Medal, AF Longevity Service Award with 6 devices;
National Defense Service Medal; AF Overseas Service Long Tour Ribbon; AF Training Ribbon; AF
Outstanding Unit Award with 6 devices.
ACTIVITIES SINCE RETIREMENT IN 1993
1. Served for 7 years on the American Red Cross Board of Directors, local chapter.
2. Worked on hundreds of Red Cross Blood Drives as a volunteer
3. Became certified as a National Red Cross Disaster Services volunteer & then served on numerous
national disasters including floods in the Midwest, a hurricane in North Carolina, and the terrible
earthquake in L.A. California as well as numerous local disasters.
4. Designed & routinely checked disaster kits used by our local Red Cross in the mid 1990s.
5. Served many years on the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Coast Military Officers Association
(MCMOA).
6. Presently the liaison between MCMOA and the Commissary, BX, Support Services, and the Medical
Center at Keesler AFB.
7. Writes important news on the above areas for publication in the monthly MCMOA Newsletter.
8. An active member of the Bay Chamber of Commerce.
9. An avid supporter & contributor to the Humane Society of South Mississippi & the American Red
Cross.
10. Although not practicing, still maintains active nursing licenses for New Jersey & California which
require study and completion of continuing education units every two years.
