TAG – Beliefs and Priorities
Belief
What it means for TAG
-
Student centered design – both in classrooms and as a
school. Lessons planned with student engagement and
complexity of task in mind.
-
Learning connected to context and, when possible, outlets
for immediate application
-
G/T strategies embedded to enable students to explore their
passions in a meaningful way
Mastery of academic content is not the
only major goal we focus on at the
expense of all else.
-
We need to design a TAG experience that focuses on “soft
skills” such as self-awareness, leadership, perseverance,,
exploration, organization, self-advocacy, etc. in conjunction
with academic content
We are not content with preparing kids
to be college-ready; instead, we should
be preparing students to be owners
and creators of their college (and life)
experiences
-
Academic readiness for college is a crucial component for
success in college. Along with that, we also need to be
helping students gain broader perspectives and selfawareness so that they can become leaders and selfadvocates on their college campus and in life.
-
0% AP/ACT/SAT/STAAR achievement gaps
-
Build and maintain an appropriate and equitable application
process that minimizes bias
-
Build systems/structures into the TAG experience that
capitalize on this and equip students with the skills and
opportunities to discuss difficult and meaningful topics (race
& identity, social justice, civic awareness, etc.)
-
Actively and strategically work to foster and build the TAG
family environment and feel.
High school students are highly
capable of owning their own education
and, with proper guidance, driving
their own learning.
We must have a major strength at
supporting students of all backgrounds
while serving 100% Dallas students
successfully.
We need to thoughtfully and
powerfully leverage our incredible
student/family diversity
TAG graduates should leave with an incredible passion for education, a clearer picture of who they are as
people, and skills (academic, personal, and social) and habits of mind to thrive in any environment.
